The suspect was originally stopped for a traffic violation and was discovered to be behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle. The suspect fled officers and during the chase took a parked van, rammed patrol vehicles, carjacked a resident while fleeing on foot in Whittier and ultimately crashed at a gas station in Hacienda Heights where a police shooting occurred. During the police shooting at the pursuit termination, the suspect was struck, not by bullets, but by two 40-millimeter non-lethal rounds, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. At least one deputy was injured at the scene of the shooting, but the mechanism and extent of injuries is not publicly known. The pursuit snaked across freeways and surface streets across Orange County and Los Angeles County. In the Whittier area, The white van the suspect stole became disabled after striking a parked vehicle. Despite putting the pedal to the metal, the van would not move. The suspect finally escaped on foot, ran through businesses and ran into a residential area and it was confronted by a group of people. During the confrontation, the suspect somehow gained access to a parked white work truck, started it and escaped. One of the people confronting the suspect fired a handgun into the ground, possibly in an attempt to scare the suspect off. The suspect was pulled from the stolen white work truck after being struck and taken into custody. Deputies have a wide portion of streets and businesses around Hacienda Boulevard and Gale Avenue closed during the investigation. Deputies were called to the 14400 block of Edgeridge Drive just before 6 a.m. September 25 to a reported person down and not breathing. The man was found suffering stab wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim, only described as a Hispanic man 35 to 40 years old, was declared dead at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters. Investigators state there is no suspect description at this time. The suspect fled in a newer-model gray Mercedes GLE. The SUV featured all tinted windows and a taped up gas cap. The suspects fled north on Hacienda Boulevard from the shopping center and out of view, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s crime broadcast. The attempted robbery occurred around 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 19. The victim could only describe one suspect: a male black wearing a red beanie who brandished a black semi-automatic handgun, according to the crime broadcast. The make and value of the watch are not readily known. Reports for the attempted robbery may be available Monday morning, according to a supervisor at the Sheriff’s Industry Station. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS – Two CHP officers were briefly hospitalized July 25 after a semi hauling a tractor trailer sideswiped their patrol vehicle and the vehicle of a stranded motorist.
The collisions occurred on the westbound 60 freeway east of Hacienda Boulevard around 4:22 a.m. One of the officers was seated in the stranded motorist’s Nissan with the vehicle’s owner in a passenger seat. The other officer used his patrol vehicle to push the Nissan off the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. “The officers suffered minor injuries and were transported to Pomona Valley Hospital for evaluation and have both been released. The female passenger and the driver of tractor-trailer combination suffered no injuries and refused medical treatment,” according to the California Highway Patrol in a written statement. “A passenger in the tractor-trailer combination was also unharmed.” Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS – A Department of Homeland Security vehicle was reported stolen May 3 from a Hacienda Heights neighborhood.
The vehicle was reported stolen around 11 p.m. in the area of South Stimson Avenue and Colima Road, according to Sgt. Shawn Dubusky of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Dubusky declined to provide the type of vehicle reported stolen, or whether the vehicle contained any equipment. He did not know if the vehicle was left unlocked, or left running before it was reported stolen. “We’re just taking a stolen vehicle report and putting it into the system,” Dubusky told SGV CityWatch. An initial Sheriff’s radio broadcast described the vehicle as a Hyundai Sonata, silver in color, sporting emergency lights and it contained radios, a tactical helmet, ammunition and body armor. The man likely accidentally shot himself in the upper torso at his home in Hacienda Heights April 25. The man reportedly fled to Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 118 for medical assistance, according to Lt. Bernal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Deputies were called to investigate around 7 p.m. Deputies wrote and served a search warrant at the man’s home, unclear about the circumstances of the shooting, but then determined the shooting was likely negligent, Bernal told SGV CityWatch. The man’s current condition is not publicly known. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Industry Station were sent to a home in the 14400 block of Crystal Lantern Drive in Hacienda Heights April 1. The suspect Is accused of threatening to burn down a family member’s home with a bottle of gasoline. Deputies tried to speak with the suspect who sat in a parked vehicle outside the home, but the suspect drove off, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies engaged the suspect in a brief vehicle pursuit until he drove back to the home and escaped on foot. “He stopped his vehicle in front of the location and ran to the side of the residence near the garage area. The suspect had a sharp pointed metal weapon in his hand and was yelling unintelligibly,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau in a written statement. Deputies reportedly gave multiple verbal commands for the suspect to surrender and fired two less-lethal 40mm rounds at him with no effect as he allegedly advanced towards deputies, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. “The suspect advanced toward one of the deputies with the sharp pointed metal weapon in his hand and a deputy involved shooting occurred,” the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a written statement. The suspect was struck by bullets fired by one deputy. The suspect was hospitalized and is apparently listed in stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. |
