Deputies were reportedly responding to a burglary alarm call at the Hacienda Heights Community Center, 1234 Valencia Ave., around 10:13 p.m. when they discovered the victim of the shooting down on the west side of the property, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. The victim was struck by 9-millimeter rounds, possibly from a semi automatic handgun, according to a deputy at the scene. Sheriff’s homicide investigators only identified the victim as a male adult. Deputies described the man as being from an area street gang, but it is unclear how they identified him as such. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. It is not yet clear how many others may have been injured. The collision occurred just before 6 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Preliminary reports from the scene indicate two drivers may have been racing each other prior to the crash. One of the vehicles involved in the collision ignited. HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A two-to-three-acre brush fire is running uphill near South 7th Avenue and East Palm Avenue. The fire, which was dispatched around 7:22 p.m., poses no threat to nearby structures and has the potential to char eight acres, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Two helicopters are helping a large number of ground crews extinguish the flames. Firefighters have 15 percent containment on the brush fire that ignited near 14710 E. Orange Grove Ave., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene just before 3 p.m. August 14 and observed a half-acre of fire burning between houses, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Eventually, a second-alarm was requested, doubling resources at the scene. Flames began spotting near homes near Rockhill Drive, but were not considered a threat, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Acreage stands at 15. HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A small brush fire is burning in the hills above Hacienda Heights. Firefighters stated 15 acres have been scorched so far near Colima Road and Punta del Este Drive. There is no threat to structures yet, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire is moving uphill. Sheriff's deputies are calling for voluntary evacuations in the neighborhoods near the fire. A nearby radio tower is potentially threatened, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters were dispatched to East Skyline Drive and South Turnbull Canyon Road just before 2 a.m. June 4. A full brush fire response was dispatched including helicopters equipped with night vision. At 4:18 a.m., firefighters had forward progress stopped, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. The fire burned in the border with Whittier. The Whittier Police Department kept access the the canyon restricted while firefighters worked, according to the Whittier Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A man was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Saturday morning with mysterious injuries deputies believe he may have suffered in a collision.
The injured man was reportedly walking through yards near South Turnbull Canyon Road before 7 a.m. March 28. Deputies were called to the area around 6:50 a.m. The man was found in the 3600 block of South Turnbull Canyon Road, according to Lt. Chris Garcia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s industry station. According to sheriffs radio traffic, the man was very confused. He had injuries deputies believed were consistent with a traffic collision, including a large swollen injury to his head. The man had briefly mentioned being with his sister and being in an automobile, but deputies were unable to obtain solid information about his last known whereabouts, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. A Sheriff’s helicopter briefly searched Turnbull Canyon Road along the hills south of Hacienda Heights, but no obvious crash site could be found. The man, described as Hispanic and in his 20s, was transported by firefighters to a hospital. An update on the man’s condition and his possible last known whereabouts were not readily available. The drowning was reported at a residence in the 3200 block of Leticia Drive around 7:47 p.m. July 27. The child was transported by ground to a hospital where the child was pronounced dead, according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
It was not specified how long the child was possibly in the water before being found. “It’s a tragedy,” Long told SGV CityWatch. “We’re on scene and waiting for our Homicide to respond.” Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE - The three employees hospitalized as a precaution after a carbon monoxide alarm activation at a Hacienda Heights McDonald's have since returned to work, according to Mallory Schluter, spokeswoman for McDonald's. Firefighters took air readings and found normal air saturation levels inside the McDonald's, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. PREVIOUS - Firefighters have found no abnormal readings after a carbon monoxide alarm was triggered at a McDonald’s Monday. Hazmat technicians with the Los Angeles County Fire Department determined air saturation is normal inside the McDonald’s, 15628 E. Gale Ave., and that the alarm may be malfunctioning -- despite that, three employees are experiencing symptoms. Three employees reportedly experienced minor headaches and will be hospitalized, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 9:09 a.m. Everyone in the McDonald’s was evacuated while firefighters worked to determine a cause. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is on scene, according to a representative with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters were called to Azusa Avenue and Colima Road at 11:05 a.m. Firefighters arrived at 11:10 a.m. and later confirmed a person dead on arrival, according to Brian Stevens of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Once at Azusa Avenue and Colima Road, firefighters were led in by workers who opened a gate to allow access, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic.
It is unclear how the person died, or how long the body may have been there before being discovered. A supervisor with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Park Bureau was unavailable to answer questions. |
