The crash occurred at Colima Road and Camino Del Sur, first reported at 1:45 a.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch logs. One vehicle became fully engulfed with flames. A victim died at the scene. The Los Angeles County County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner arrived on scene about 40 minutes ago, according to Officer Michael Nasir of the California Highway Patrol. The cause of the crash is under investigation. The suspect is described as a white, or Latino man with a fair complexion, medium length hair parted to the side and is in his mid-30s. He wore light colored pants and a shirt. He was reportedly barefoot and ran eastbound on the 60 freeway from the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred on the westbound 60 freeway east of Crossroads Parkway Wednesday, March 22 around 4:08 a.m. Prior to that, a collision spun around a Hyundai Sonata, which then continued east in westbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Sonata then crashed into several other vehicles, including a jackknifed big rig. Angelique Zarate, 11, died at the scene. Rafael Zarate, 50, was hospitalized with major injuries. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS – Two CHP officers were briefly hospitalized July 25 after a semi hauling a tractor trailer sideswiped their patrol vehicle and the vehicle of a stranded motorist.
The collisions occurred on the westbound 60 freeway east of Hacienda Boulevard around 4:22 a.m. One of the officers was seated in the stranded motorist’s Nissan with the vehicle’s owner in a passenger seat. The other officer used his patrol vehicle to push the Nissan off the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. “The officers suffered minor injuries and were transported to Pomona Valley Hospital for evaluation and have both been released. The female passenger and the driver of tractor-trailer combination suffered no injuries and refused medical treatment,” according to the California Highway Patrol in a written statement. “A passenger in the tractor-trailer combination was also unharmed.” Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A gunshot victim was found dead with a wound to the head on the 60 freeway Sunday morning.
The person was pronounced dead by firefighters on the westbound 60 freeway just west of the 7th Avenue on ramp, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. CHP officers were dispatched to what was initially reported as a injury hit and run collision around 5:47 a.m. October 10, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol. Nicholson did not elaborate further on the crash, only stating that there was a confirmed fatality. Before the traffic log was removed from public view, initial details stated that an officer observed a weapon in the person’s hand. A vehicle was also at the scene of the shooting, but it is unclear if the person was found dead inside or outside of the vehicle. At 7:23 AM, a Sig Alert was issued for four hours for the on ramp from seventh Avenue to the westbound 60 freeway, Nicholson told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Authorities identified the driver who was shot during a road rage incident in Hacienda Heights Saturday afternoon and who later died from his wounds.
La Puente man Luis Mendoza, 35, was identified by the California Highway Patrol. Mendoza was driving a white Chevrolet Avalanche east on the 60 freeway east of Crossroads Parkway just before 12:30 p.m. July 3. According to witnesses, the right front passenger of a silver or gray compact apparently opened fire, striking Mendoza and his truck. Mendoza lost control of his Chevrolet Avalanche, hit a white Kia and then crashed into the right shoulder retaining wall, the CHP said. Mendoza and the two teenagers, 13 and 16 years old, were taken to County USC/Medical Center for treatment. Mendoza died there, the CHP said. The 13-year-old suffered major head injuries. The 16-year-old suffered injuries considered not life-threatening. The mechanism of their injuries was not immediately known, the CHP said. The Kia’s driver was uninjured. Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the CHP could not immediately confirm if any of the three victims injured in this incident were struck by gunfire. According to CBS2 news, a man died, while two teenage sons remain hospitalized. The suspect fled in either a gray Toyota Corolla or Toyota Camry, the CHP said. HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A Sig Alert continues for an unknown duration on the eastbound 60 freeway at 7th Avenue and on the transition roads from the 605 freeway after reports of gunfire erupted either before or after a collision Saturday. Three people were transported to an area trauma center for treatment, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is not quite clear if those three people were injured in the collision or if they were injured by gunfire. CHP officers were first called to the multi-vehicle collision on the eastbound 60 freeway at 12:28 p.m., according to Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the California Highway Patrol. The above mentioned lanes and transition roads to the East 60 freeway from the north and south 605 remain closed while officers canvassed the freeway looking for evidence of a shooting, Kravig told SGV CityWatch. The crossroads Parkway on ramp to the eastbound 60 freeway is also closed to traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A 24-year-old La Puente woman died after her Hyundai Elantra slammed into a wall early Monday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP identified the woman as Adriana Lisette Barajas. Preliminary information provided in a press release obtained by SGV CityWatch indicated Barajas, the only person in the Elantra, was not wearing safety equipment. The California Highway patrol responded to the intersection at Turnbull Canyon Road and Vallecito Drive at 12:40 a.m. April 12. Investigators believe that Barajas was southbound on Turnbull Canyon Road in excess of the posted 35 mile per hour speed limit. “A collision occurred when the Hyundai impacted the south roadway edge of Vallecito Drive at Turnbull Canyon Road. As a result of the collision, Barajas sustained fatal injuries,” according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol and/or drugs played a factor in this crash. It is not yet clear how many others may have been injured. The collision occurred just before 6 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Preliminary reports from the scene indicate two drivers may have been racing each other prior to the crash. One of the vehicles involved in the collision ignited. The crash was reported around 5:08 a.m. February 6 near Del Prado Drive at Hacienda Boulevard. Southbound and northbound lanes of Hacienda Boulevard near Del Prado Drive are closed for an investigation. The crash occurred at Annellen Street and South Stimson Avenue just after 3:36 a.m. June 30. The crash caused energized power lines to fall across the road, preventing first responders from approaching the SUV, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to CHP traffic logs, two people remained trapped in the SUV until the power lines were de-energized. The cause of the crash is under investigation. |
