The driver of a green SUV reportedly struck and killed the pedestrian who, according to initial reports, was running across lanes of the westbound 210 freeway Near Irwindale Ave.October 1. CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives are assisting the Irwindale Police Department with a shooting death Sunday. The incident unfolded near the 605 freeway south of the 210 freeway around 10:30 a.m. May 26. The victim, only described as a male adult, was declared dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The exact circumstances surrounding the homicide are not publicly known. The California Highway Patrol has intermittently shut down the transition roads from the east 210 and west 210 freeway to the southbound 605, as well as the Arrow Highway on ramp to the north 605 freeway and Mt. Olive on ramp to the southbound 605 freeway during the operation. SGV CityWatch readers who traversed the freeway closures witnessed police in tactical gear, guns trained on an unspecified target. A vehicle may also be involved off the side of the freeway. First responders were called to the Irwindale Avenue overpass at the 210 freeway just after 4 p.m., Wednesday, October 4. Callers reported that the man had scaled the fence on the northbound side of Irwindale Avenue and was dangling over the westbound side of the 210 freeway, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Officers begin speaking with the subject, who said he intended to jump from the overpass. During negotiations, officers were able to grab a hold of the man’s fingers and clothing through the chain link fence until Los Angeles County firefighters arrived and used a ladder truck to take the man down, according to the Irwindale Police Department. All of Irwindale Avenue at the overpass, as well as westbound and eastbound lanes of the 210 freeway were closed for an hour. Traffic was diverted during the rescue. The man was hospitalized and given a psychiatric evaluation. Law enforcement apparently pursued the driver from Bell Gardens to the Irwindale area where the driver crashed up an embankment near Santa Fe Dam and disabled the Kia Sportage the suspect was driving around 9:30 p.m. September 25. Earlier during the pursuit in Santa Fe Springs, the suspect stopped and barricaded inside the Kia Sportage for about 45 minutes before allegedly using the vehicle against a CHP cruiser to escape, according to KCAL 9 news. Traffic on the northbound 605 freeway near Arrow Highway was blocked while the suspect refused to exit. When the suspect did finally exit, a K9 helped to take the suspect down. Nathaniel Walter Radimak, 36, was stopped November 25, 2022 in the 4900 block of Irwindale Avenue around 11 a.m. He was initially stopped for a vehicle code violation. He was cited for driving without a license, according to Sgt. Diego Cornejo of the Irwindale Police Department. After months of eluding arrest, Radimak, a Los Angeles resident, was identified and arrested in Torrance by the California Highway Patrol. He is accused of assault with a deadly weapon, which was infamously caught on a dashboard camera January 11. The attack occurred on the 2 freeway near York Boulevard in Los Angeles, according to the CHP. Radimak was caught on camera allegedly committing multiple other attacks that were also in Atwater Village, Pasadena and Echo Park. Radimak was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of more than $5 million bail in the Los Angeles Police Department 77th Street jail. He also has at least two outstanding warrants. Court date information was not readily available. IRWINDALE - A collision between a motorcycle and an unspecified truck has closed all except for the fast lane of the southbound 605 freeway just south of Live Oak Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. The Live Oak Avenue on ramp is also closed. The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol around 5:39 p.m. November 20. A big rig hauling 22,000 pounds of freight crashed into another large vehicle, possibly a garbage truck or street sweeper, just after 5 a.m. June 20. The collision was reported around 7:34 a.m. on the westbound 210 freeway at the southbound 605 freeway. A motorcyclist died in the HOV lane after apparently colliding with a black BMW SUV, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. An off-duty firefighter reportedly stopped to assist with the crash and preliminarily determined that the rider was deceased at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The HOV and No. 1 lane remain blocked for westbound lanes of the 210 freeway at the 605. One person is detained, but not under arrest yet in the incident. It is not immediately clear if any ballistic evidence was found at the scene to corroborate the alleged victim’s claim of a shooting, according to Officer Alexander Ramondo of the California Highway Patrol Southern Division. The CHP was called to the off ramp from the east 210 freeway to Irwindale Avenue at 7:55 a.m. July 1. No one was injured. According to preliminary details, a road rage incident occurred and as both the alleged victim and suspect stopped on the off ramp, the victim reported walked to the suspect to confront him, Ramondo told SGV CityWatch. “The victim claimed the suspect brandished a gun and fired,” Ramondo told SGV CityWatch. The off ramp was closed and taped off while the CHP, with assistance from the Irwindale and Azusa police departments, investigated the incident. |
