Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE – Upset over an empty soda machine, a Baldwin Park man became irate and threatened AMPM employees, ultimately kicked and punched one and assaulted him with a hammer, and assaulted another with a stun device. The tirade unfolded at AMPM, 15875 Arrow Hwy, just after 4:30 p.m. August 9. Edger Morelos, 35, “produced a hammer and began to threaten store employees with the hammer. He then armed himself with a large kitchen knife, which he brandished and swung at the employees, all while still continuing to threaten them,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement. Morelos allegedly knocked down one employee with a kick to the chest and struck him with a hammer and his hands and feet.
As he fled the AMPM, Morelos allegedly attacked a second employee with a stun gun device, Irwindale Police said. “A claw hammer, a kitchen knife with a 5½ inch blade, a metal flashlight with an integrated electric stun device and drug paraphernalia were all found in Morelos' possession at the time and were recovered by the arresting officers,” Irwindale Police said in a written statement. Morelos, a Baldwin Park man, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery, exhibiting a deadly weapon, assault with a stun gun device, being a convicted felon in possession of a stun gun device and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is also on probation and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Irwindale Police said. Morelos is being held in lieu of $115,000 at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. |
