Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station announced the confiscation of $7,500 in illegal fireworks in La Puente June 20. Another large cache of illegal fireworks was seized June 22 by Industry deputies, containing many of the same collection of aerial fireworks, totaling about $2,000.
A woman was arrested during the June 20 seizure of fireworks in the 1700 block of Hacienda Boulevard. The woman, who deputies have not identified, had illegal fireworks in her vehicle and admitted to storing more illegal fireworks in her Baldwin Park home, deputies said.
The woman was later booked on suspicion of possessing dangerous fireworks for sale or transportation. She has since been released after posting bond. A woman was arrested after being detained by deputies during the second seizure of illegal fireworks June 22 at Amar Road and Puente Avenue. She was also suspected of delivering illegal fireworks, deputies said. “People don’t realize the high risk and harm created by their use,” said Captain Tim Murakami of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station in a social media post. “These can easily start a fire & cause injury.” Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A man is in unknown condition after being shot on Azusa Avenue Just after 9 p.m. Friday.
The victim was speaking to deputies who arrived after being told of a shooting in the area. The victim is being treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Firefighters who will transport him to an area hospital. The shooting took place either inside our near the QQ Bargain Dollar Mart, 401 S. Azusa Ave. A male suspect opened fire on the victim. The suspect fled with two female accomplices in a black, older-model car with collision damage to the passenger side. The gunman is a Hispanic man between 20 to 30 years old. The two female accomplices, the driver and rear passenger, are Hispanic and between 20 to 25 years old. The driver crashed a stolen red Honda sedan in the 1300 block of South Sandy Hook in La Puente around 11:30 p.m. The officer attempted to pull over the driver after believing he was connected to a robbery in neighboring Industry, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect, a Hispanic man, was hit once by gunfire. His wounds are not life-threatening. The driver was fleeing at high speed and failed to yield when the officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver crashed the Honda into the median in the 1300 block of South Sandy Hook, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. The officer drove after the suspect fleeing on foot. Shots rang out when the officer tried to detain the suspect, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Officers alter determined the pursuit suspect was unrelated to the robbery in Industry. No one else was injured. The unidentified suspect was shot around 11:07 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Sandyhook Avenue. The suspect's condition is unknown, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. West Covina Police pursued the driver of a reportedly-stolen red Honda for a short distance before the suspect fled on foot. It is unclear when the officer-involved shooting occurred. As the suspect was being detained after he fled on foot, an officer told his dispatcher that there were no outstanding suspects and that a taser was deployed, according to West Covina radio traffic. A few minutes later, officers spoke of the suspect going to an area hospital for treatment. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - Deputies are investigating two different incidents involving guns early Sunday that left one victim with a gunshot wound.
The first incident involved the weapon brandishing, reported at Sunkist Avenue and Amar Road just after midnight. A black Chevy Impala, possibly occupied by as many as five people, drove by the victim. The driver and front passenger pulled out guns and pointed them in the sky, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. No shots were fired and no one was hurt. The driver and front passenger were described as Hispanic men, 19-20 years old, both with shaved heads. The Impala featured tinted windows and was driven away northbound on Sunkist. Around 3:40 a.m., a man was reportedly shot in the arm in the 1100 block of Molinar Avenue. The front passenger of a black four-door sedan fired at the victim with a semi-automatic handgun, Sheriff’s deputies said. The black sedan was seen being driven south on Molinar towards Amar Road. The cause of the commercial fire at 151 S. 9th. Ave., is still under investigation. The second-alarm blaze was contained to the affected building, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. It was unclear if the building was occupied or vacant. |
