Two suspects emerged from an SUV and shot at a Toyota Camry in the 15800 block of Hill Street around 8:10 p.m., according to Lt. Chris Garcia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Two children, as well as an adult driver, were in the grey Camry that the two suspects fired at, Garcia said.
The suspects were firing at someone near the vehicle and completely missed their target. Garcia did not immediately know of any injuries. The masked suspects are believed to be Hispanic men between 20 and 30 years old. They fled into a silver Ford Explorer, Garcia said. The suspect remains hidden in the 200 block of South Covina Boulevard. The suspect is accused of rape and kidnapping, according to Deputy Erin Liu of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information.
A female victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment, Liu said. Industry deputies initial responded to the scene around 7 p.m. Friday night. The suspect is believed to be unarmed. The victim is uncooperative with deputies who are trying to identify a motive and suspect. The shooting reportedly occurred around 7:56 p.m. on Amar Road between Valinda Avenue and Hacienda Boulevard. “The victim drove himself to a local hospital. We met him there and he’s been completely uncooperative,” according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. There is no suspect description. La Puente has been coping with a sharp increase in gun violence, which left three people dead and others injured. The most recent shooting occurred at a motel party at the Valley Inn, 13010 Valley Blvd., July 3. One man was injured by gunfire after a fistfight occurred. A man was found dead in an alleyway July 1 of an apparent gunshot wound in the 15400 block of Temple Avenue. One man died and another wounded in a June 30 shooting in the 400 block of Tonopah Avenue. Two men were injured, one fatally, in a shooting June 28 in the 100 block of North Winton Avenue. A 26-year-old Asian woman is in critical, but stable condition after being struck at Common Avenue and old Valley Boulevard around 6:20 p.m. July 7, according to the latest information from lieutenant James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The pedestrian suffered a head wound, Long said. Two men robbed the AT&T Store, 1200 N. Hacienda Ave., after 10 a.m. July 6. There were no weapons seen during the robbery, according to Lt. Rick Rector of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
Deputies searching for the suspects located their vehicle on Azusa Avenue south of the I-10 freeway. The vehicle did not stop and a brief chase was initiated to the freeway until the suspects lost deputies around Vincent Avenue on the westbound I-10, Rector said. Rector did not immediately have suspect descriptions or a description of the vehicle. The man was injured at the Valley Inn, 13010 Valley Blvd., July 3. Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:04 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The victim and another man were part of a large group at the motel, possibly partying when an argument erupted into a fistfight. Someone in the crowd opened fire, according to Sgt. Shackelford of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. A 19-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition. The fistfighting suspect not hit fled the scene. The shooting may not be gang-related, Shackelford said. The gunman was only described as a Hispanic man, Shackelford said. La Puente has seen a dramatic increase in shootings in the last week. A man was fatally shot in the torso on Temple Avenue near Perth Avenue July 1. He died at the scene. A triple shooting June 30 in the 400 block of Tonopah Avenue left one man dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Two others were wounded. June 28, a double shooting left 31-year-old David Peter Juarez dead and a second man wounded in the upper torso. West Covina was home to gun violence June 30 when a man and woman inside a vehicle were struck by gunfire flying out the window of another vehicle on West Cameron Avenue near California Avenue. Investigators have not publicized if the suspects in any of the shootings have been arrested. Deputies responding to a report of a person not breathing discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso in the 15400 block of Temple Avenue July 1.
