The as-of-yet unidentified suspect was taken into custody some time after 1:30 p.m. after he was pinned down by the residents in the 800 block of Melham Avenue. The suspect was initially sought for a home burglary, according to Lt. Chris Garcia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Deputies were called to the 800 block of Melham Avenue to instigate a burglary when the suspect saw them and fled. He soon found his way into the occupied home, which he forced his way into, Garcia said. The Industry Sheriff’s Station received a call from a resident who said the suspect broke into their home. As deputies arrived, the suspect began struggling with the residents who held him down until his arrest, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Booking information for the suspect was not yet available, Garcia said. The shooting was reported by several residents in the 1100 block of Algonquin Drive around 6:15 a.m. The callers heard the gunfire followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away, according to Sgt. Eddie Lopez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Deputies have no reports of victims. There is no suspect or vehicle description. The threat was discovered Monday December 10 as students were being let out at Nogales High School, 401 Nogales St. The threat, written in red ink, was found inscribed on the cement under the school sign near the parking lot on Nogales Street, according to Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect’s threat specified retaliation for being called “ugly” and spoke of shooting up the school on Monday, December 17 during fourth period. A suspect has yet to be identified or arrested. “The Industry Sheriff’s Station is working with us on the situation and will have an increased presence on campus,” according to Principal Yousef Nasouf. “I understand a version of this message is being shared and spread via social media. The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority.” A stronger presence of deputies is being planned for December 17. “There will be an increased law enforcement presence on campus Dec. 17. The safety of our schools within our communities is paramount,” Schrader said. The burglary occurred on Melham Avenue near Cadbrook Drive around 10:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Brady Kline of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. According to a Sheriff’s crime broadcast, $4,300 in cash was taken. The two suspects fled in a vehicle northbound from the location, Sgt. Kline said. In the crime broadcast, deputies were told the suspects were Black men fleeing in a vehicle north towards Cadbrook Avenue and out of view. |
