The driver crashed a stolen red Honda sedan in the 1300 block of South Sandy Hook in La Puente around 11:30 p.m. The officer attempted to pull over the driver after believing he was connected to a robbery in neighboring Industry, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect, a Hispanic man, was hit once by gunfire. His wounds are not life-threatening. The driver was fleeing at high speed and failed to yield when the officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver crashed the Honda into the median in the 1300 block of South Sandy Hook, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. The officer drove after the suspect fleeing on foot. Shots rang out when the officer tried to detain the suspect, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Officers alter determined the pursuit suspect was unrelated to the robbery in Industry. The unidentified suspect was shot around 11:07 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Sandyhook Avenue. The suspect's condition is unknown, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. West Covina Police pursued the driver of a reportedly-stolen red Honda for a short distance before the suspect fled on foot. It is unclear when the officer-involved shooting occurred. As the suspect was being detained after he fled on foot, an officer told his dispatcher that there were no outstanding suspects and that a taser was deployed, according to West Covina radio traffic. A few minutes later, officers spoke of the suspect going to an area hospital for treatment. |
