Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - Violence in an already violence-plagued community continues after a man was hit by gunfire early Wednesday.
The man was injured at the Valley Inn, 13010 Valley Blvd., July 3. Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:04 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The victim and another man were part of a large group at the motel, possibly partying when an argument erupted into a fistfight. Someone in the crowd opened fire, according to Sgt. Shackelford of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. A 19-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition. The fistfighting suspect not hit fled the scene. The shooting may not be gang-related, Shackelford said. The gunman was only described as a Hispanic man, Shackelford said. La Puente has seen a dramatic increase in shootings in the last week. A man was fatally shot in the torso on Temple Avenue near Perth Avenue July 1. He died at the scene. A triple shooting June 30 in the 400 block of Tonopah Avenue left one man dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Two others were wounded. June 28, a double shooting left 31-year-old David Peter Juarez dead and a second man wounded in the upper torso. West Covina was home to gun violence June 30 when a man and woman inside a vehicle were struck by gunfire flying out the window of another vehicle on West Cameron Avenue near California Avenue. Investigators have not publicized if the suspects in any of the shootings have been arrested. |
