Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A gun was reportedly found inside a vehicle after the driver fled deputies and slammed into another vehicle and a wall Friday afternoon. During a traffic stop at Evanwood Avenue and Lassalette Avenue at 5 p.m., the driver refused to comply with commands to exit and reached for a bag placed on the floorboard. Fearing a gun was in the bag, the deputy grabbed the driver’s arm, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The driver bit the deputy on the hand and fled the scene, setting off a brief pursuit that ended when the driver struck an occupied vehicle at Willow Avenue and Fairgrove Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The suspect vehicle also struck a wall. “The Los Angeles County Fire Department transported the suspect to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation and clearance for booking. A firearm was recovered inside the bag the suspect was reaching for,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The female driver in the vehicle struck by the suspect was hospitalized with minor injuries. The deputy was also treated for his injuries. The suspect’s name was not released. |
