Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – A man groped a woman as he walked into the La Verne Public Library and spied on a female in the restroom Thursday.
The incident occurred around 12:13 p.m. inside the library, 3640 D Street. The man entered the library and walked past a female, squeezing her buttocks and brushing up against her. He was then seen near the woman’s restroom, La Verne Police said. A female patron was using the restroom and saw the man peeking over her stall. When he was caught peeking at the female, the suspect fled the library through emergency doors on the south side of the library, La Verne Police said. Witnesses saw the suspect fleeing towards the north side of Foothill Boulevard west of Fruit Street. While officers were searching for the suspect, a woman in a nearby mobile home park reported seeing a man steal her white 1999 Buick Century. The grand theft auto suspect matched the description of the sexual assault suspect. The man seen fleeing in the stolen car removed his shirt and sweatshirt before leaving. Officers recovered both articles of clothing. The suspect is a Hispanic man in his late 20s, is 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin, has a shaved head, wore baggy jeans, a royal blue “dry fit”-style shirt and a white and black hoodie with camouflage print. The Buick Century has a license plate number of 5HV674. Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call the La Verne Police Department at 909-596-1913. Los Angeles County firefighters report a “well-seated fire” inside a hangar at the field. La Verne firefighters are current dousing “Class A materials” and state the hangar has pack-rat conditions, according to La Verne Fire Department radio traffic. Class A materials consist of trash, plastics, paper, wood and fabric. La Verne public works is being summoned for a forklift to assist. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – Preliminary results are in from a statewide operation implemented to curb underage drinking, showing multiple people arrested on a variety of offenses.
Police report 277 people were cited, accused of furnishing alcohol to underage people, 26 were cited, accused of possessing open alcohol containers and 48 more arrested or cited for outstanding warrants, illegal drugs, public drunkenness or DUI, according to the La Verne Police Department. The “Decoy Shoulder Tap Operation” was held Saturday, March 10, and involved more than 70 law enforcement agencies and agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. A minor, under the direct supervision of a peace officer, will stand outside a liquor or convenience store and ask patrons to buy them alcohol, noting to the patron that they are underage. Offenders risk a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service. La Verne and Glendora Police held a joint “Shoulder Tap” operation. “We are seeing first-hand the positive impact these and other preventative and education programs are having in our community,” said Captain Colleen Flores of La Verne Police and Chief Lisa Rosales of Glendora Police. “No one would purchase alcohol for our minor and several businesses asked the minor to leave or contacted law enforcement to report the minor soliciting for alcohol during the operation.” Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor 3/12: UPDATED, 8:41 p.m. - Daniel Kwok was located by Colton Police officers and was determined to be same, La Verne Police said.
LA VERNE - A suicidal man has been missing since Saturday and police are looking for him. Daniel Kwok, 40, sent text messages to a family member March 10 and stated he wanted to commit suicide. How he wanted to kill himself was not stated, La Verne Police said. Kwok is possibly driving a white Nissan Versa or Sentra and is known to frequent the Azusa Canyon area. Kwok is described as transient. Kwok is an Asian man, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 130 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on Kwok’s whereabouts is urged to call the La Verne Police Department at 909-596-1913. |
