Alicia Hernandez fled her group home located at 1940 Baseline Rd. April 20. Hernandez was last seen wearing pink Puma sneakers, a burgundy sweater, black ripped jeans and a gold necklace, La Verne Police said. Hernandez has a left forearm tattoo and left bicep tattoo. Anyone who knows Hernandez’s whereabouts is urged to call the La Verne Police Department at 909-596-1913. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A woman was beaten by a man who gave her a ride from Union Station and she jumped out of his vehicle to save herself, police said.
The woman wound up in the 4500 block of Dawn Avenue around 2:20 a.m. where she requested police assistance. Police discovered visible injuries to her face and body. The woman, while being hit by the driver, suffered additional injuries when she jumped out of the moving vehicle, La Verne Police said. The woman said she was picked up at Los Angeles’ Union Station by an unknown man. The woman could not provide a description of the suspect or his vehicle, La Verne Police said. The woman was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment, said Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol. The CHP and Los Angeles Police Department are both investigating the incident. Written by AARON CASTREJON | Citywatch Editor LA VERNE - A Chino man was arrested in connection with the groping/sexual assault that occurred in the La Verne Public Library March 29.
Jose Martinez-Hernaiz, 30, was arrested by La Verne Police detectives April 5. Authorities accuse Martinez-Hernaiz of squeezing the buttocks of and brushing up againsta woman in the library, 3640 D. Street and also spying on a woman who was using the women’s restroom, La Verne Police said. After being spotted, Martinez-Hernaiz fled the library through an emergency door and fled towards the north side of Foothill Boulevard west of Fruit Street. While officers were searching for a suspect, a woman in a nearby mobile home park reported seeing a man steal her white 1999 Buick Century, La Verne Police said. Martinez-Hernaiz was booked and held in lieu of $75,000 bail. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office April 9. The DA officially filed two felony counts for felony burglary, felony grand theft auto, sexual battery, invasion of privacy, petty theft and petty theft with a prior. Martinez-Hernaiz pleaded guilty to all charges, La Verne Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – Two men in a white car opened fire on another man in a seemingly-unprovoked attack late Monday, police said.
The attack occurred at A Street and First Street around 11:07 p.m. The victim was walking near the intersection when two men in a white four-door vehicle quickly stopped near him. The men exited, revealed they were armed with handguns and opened fire, La Verne Police said. Officers responding to multiple calls of five to 10 gunshots heard near the intersection did not reveal a victim, however, he turned up later at San Dimas Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to a foot, La Verne Police said. The victim fled the from the men as they opened fire on him, ultimately hiding in the yard of a nearby home. The victim contacted a resident who drove him to the hospital, La Verne Police said. Both suspects are apparently unknown to the victim. No suspect description was given. Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call the La Verne Police Department at 909-596-1913. |
