Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg after being shot inside a vehicle Monday night.
The man was wounded by an acquaintance during what officers described as a failed robbery in the 2000 block of Clear Falls Avenue around 9:15 p.m. “The victim and suspect are acquaintances and arrived to the location in the same vehicle. The suspect attempted to rob the victim of his money and property,” La Verne Police said in a written statement. The victim was since released from the hospital, La Verne Police said. Javeion Sims, a 23-year-old La Verne man, remains at-large. He may be armed with a dark semi-automatic handgun. Sims 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing an orange sweatshirt, camouflage pants and camouflage Nike shoes. Anyone with knowledge of Sims’ whereabouts is urged to call La Verne Police at 909-596-1913. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – The second and final suspect sought in the shooting of a man in La Verne was caught July 7, police said. The unnamed juvenile suspect was involved in a shooting after a verbal altercation broke out between the juvenile and a 21-year-old suspect in the 1700 block of D Street February 26, La Verne Police said. The first suspect arrested, John Sanchez Jr., a La Verne resident, was taken into custody March 3, La Verne Police said.
After the victim was shot in the February incident, he drove away from the scene. The suspects also fled the location. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds. He was treated for his injuries and released from a hospital. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed two charges against each suspect: attempted murder and shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle, La Verne Police said.
