A search is underway extending from the area of Bonita Avenue and Damien Avenue, Palomares Avenue and Damien Avenue, Wheeler Avenue and Palomares and Wheeler and Bonita. The suspect is described as a black man, wearing a white shirt, a white and black, horizontal, striped sweatshirt and dark pants, according to the La Verne Police Department. It is not immediately clear why the suspect is being sought. It is also unclear exactly when this search began, but Laverne the fire department engines have been staged at Palomar is Avenue and Carrion Rpad since 6:38 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A person was hit by a Metrolink train bound for Los Angeles Tuesday morning.
The collision occurred on the tracks south of Arrow Highway at San Dimas Canyon Road around 6:10 a.m. The tracks between the Pomona North station and Covina station remain closed, according to Metrolink. MTA buses are assisting riders on cancelled trains. Riders can drive down to the Downtown Pomona station and take the Riverside line to Los Angeles. Firefighters were dispatched to the 4300 block of Saint Mark Avenue around 9:19 a.m. May 31. The vehicle burst into flames after the crash. The two dead inside the vehicle will require extrication from the twisted wreck. Initially, it appears that the vehicle was eastbound on Baseline Road, hopped the curb, tore a path across a residential front yard, crashed through a cinderblock wall and wrought iron fence until it finally smashed into the rear yard on Saint Mark. Eastbound baseline Road is closed from Fruit Avenue by La Verne Police. The California Highway patrol is investigating. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A helicopter search is underway for any suspicious activity in the Unincorporated La Verne foothills after deputies believe a volley of gunfire rang out in the darkness Thursday night.
The deputies were likely en route to a call when they reported hearing around 3 to 4 shots that they believe were aimed in their direction in the 6300 block of Stephens Ranch Road in the La Verne foothills, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The deputies took refuge behind the patrol vehicle and the estimate the gunfire was heard about 50 yards from their location. Fellow deputies arrived and with the assistance of a helicopter they devise an evacuation plan to have the initial deputies retreat to safety. Staff at Camp Joseph Paige, 6601 North Stephens Ranch Rd., discovered the 15-year-old was missing just before 7 p.m. He was possibly seen fleeing near the Marshal Canyon Golf Course, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The teen is Hispanic, stands about 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds, has long black hair and was wearing a grey long sleeve shirt and grey pants. The teen is accused of battery, deputies were told. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - One person was killed after a vehicle collided with a pedestrian and a van on the right shoulder of the east 210 freeway east of Fruit Street, the California Highway Patrol said.
Only the HOV lane remains open. The No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes are closed for traffic. A good Samaritan follower of the driver of a white BMW as the vehicle swerved all over freeway lanes at fluctuating speeds. The driver of the BMW struck the pedestrian near a white work van on the right shoulder just before 9 p.m., according to the CHP. The white BMW was found stopped along the freeway east of the collision. It is unclear if a suspect is detained or was found at the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - No injuries were reported after a fire burned inside a 200-foot-square commercial building Wednesday morning. The fire burned inside the structure at 1835 Wright Ave. near Puddingstone Drive June 10, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters arriving on scene requested a 2nd-alarm response, doubling resources. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – La Verne Police will have an extra presence at city schools Thursday as a precaution after a deadly shooting occurred at Saugus High School, police said. There has been no threat made against Bonita Unified schools in La Verne, according to the La Verne Police Department. A 16-year-old student of Saugus High School shot as many as six students Thursday while armed with a handgun. The suspect was hospitalized. One teen girl was killed, authorities said.

The fire is burning in the 4500 block of Live Oak Canyon Road. A full brush fire response has been sent, including at least three helicopters, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE, 4:09 p.m. - The gas company has shut off the gas leak. The neighborhood will soon be repopulated, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. LA VERNE - A tree fell and damaged a natural gas line in the county portion of the La Verne foothills Sunday afternoon. Five homes are affected by the severed gas line: residents in two homes will shelter in place and two have been evacuated. A bed-ridden resident has been assisted out by firefighters and an ambulance, according to a battalion chief with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters were called to the 4500 block of Lower Live Oak Canyon Road for an odor investigation at 1:42 p.m. July 28. Deputies are on scene assisting with a perimeter, according to Lt. Ed Mackenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.
A perimeter has been set up around the affected home and deputies have blocked traffic into the area, according to fire department radio traffic. The gas company and SoCal Edison are on scene. |
