Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Detectives are continuing their efforts to locate a known domestic violence suspect who repeatedly terrorized his victim early Sunday morning, police said.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is being sought on suspicion of felony domestic violence charges and weapons charges. Officers were called just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, October 29 to the 1300 block of Palomares Avenue on a domestic violence call. Police learned that the suspect forced his way into the victim’s home without consent, caused injury to the victim, stole the victim’s cell phone, vehicle and escaped, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect then returned to the victim’s home around 5:50 a.m. and forced his way inside again. The victim, however, was able to escape and met with officers outside. “Police made contact with the suspect via phone. A gunshot was heard from inside the residence and shortly after, the suspect jumped from a balcony onto the adjacent property holding what appeared to be a handgun, and ran northwest, out of sight,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect is not a La Verne resident, police said. A wide perimeter was establish to search for the suspect. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team assisted with a search. K9 units from the West Covina Police Department, Claremont Police Department and the San Bernardino sheriffs department. Police departments from Covina and Pomona also assisted with the search. At 2:30 p.m., the La Verne Police Department announced that the search had ended after officers determined that the suspect escaped the perimeter. During a search of the victim’s residence a stolen firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered along with other evidence. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Two Pomona men were arrested recently and charged in the shooting of a worker at a La Verne construction site during a robbery.
Jose Alfredo Padilla, 24, and Angel Valenzuela, 41, were both identified after a lengthy investigation, according to the La Verne Police Department. Police responded about 3:30 p.m. to the 2300 block of Arrow Highway July 21. When they arrived, officers were told that two men in a gray, older-model Chevy Suburban drove onto the construction site and entered a work truck. Three workers confronted the suspects and one of the suspects brandished a firearm, according to the La Verne Police Department. “One suspect pulled out a gun and the workers attempted to run. The suspect fired one shot striking the victim in the left foot,” according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspects fled eastbound in the Suburban. The shooting victim was hospitalized, treated and released that same day. Valenzuela was already in custody, arrested by the Pomona Police Department July 31 on an unrelated crime. He is also serving time on an unrelated case, according to the La Verne Police Department. Padilla was arrested August 6 by La Verne detectives at a Pomona residence. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Padilla and Valenzuela, including attempted murder, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Padilla was additionally charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Padilla is being held at the North County Correctional Facility in lieu of more than $3.1 million bail. Valenzuela is being held in lieu of nearly $2.2 million bail at the Pomona City Jail. |
