Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A San Bernardino man was taken into custody July 10 after evidence led La Verne detectives to pinpoint a suspect in a May 21 T-Mobile robbery.
La Verne Police used evidence gathered from fixed license plate readers, in addition to surveillance cameras, employees of T-Mobile to help detectives identify and arrest Isaiah Jones as one of two burglary suspects, La Verne Police said. Jones and an accomplice are accused of cutting multiple display iPhones from the T-Mobile, 2367 Foothill Blvd. The suspects threatened to harm employees if they tried to stop them. The suspects fled with $4,500 in merchandise, La Verne Police said. After additional follow-up was conducted, La Verne detectives enlisted the help of San Bernardino Police to serve a search warrant at Jones’ residence where evidence in the robbery, including the suspect vehicle, were located, La Verne Police said. Store employees were also able to identify Jones once he was arrested. The city of La Verne implemented the use of 21 fixed license plate readers in January of 2016. The cameras, provided by Vigilant Solutions, have reportedly helped police identify 28 stolen vehicles in the first eight months of operation, according to the Vigilant Solutions website. Stored data in the cameras has apparently helped La Verne detectives to solve residential and commercial burglary cases by using the vehicle descriptions and a partial license plate. Police have also arrested domestic violence suspects, kidnapping suspects and suspects accused of assault with a deadly weapon. |
