The threat by a student was overheard by several other students of Ramona Middle School, 3490 Ramona Ave., after school ended August 30. School administration was made aware and the La Verne Police Department began investigating, according to Ramona Middle School Principal James Ellis. “The LVPD went to the student’s home to ensure there was no means to act on the threat and investigate the allegation. The threat was found to be non-credible,” Ellis said is a written statement. Ramona Middle School will be open today, August 31, and classes will be held as normal. La Verne Police officers will be present on campus before and after school out of an abundance of caution, Ellis said in a written statement. There has been no threat made against Bonita Unified schools in La Verne, according to the La Verne Police Department. A 16-year-old student of Saugus High School shot as many as six students Thursday while armed with a handgun. The suspect was hospitalized. One teen girl was killed, authorities said.
Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A 39-year-old father of a middle school student was jailed Friday after being found with a gun tucked in his waistband while at a middle school.
Police responded to a medical call at Ramona Middle School, 3490 Ramona Ave., October 26 around 10 a.m. Police found and were able to awaken Nathan Thompson, who exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance, according to the La Verne Police Department. A search of Thompson revealed a concealed handgun, La Verne Police said. “There was no danger to the students on campus and no time did the subject come into contact with any students on campus,” La Verne Police said in a written statement. Thompson was booked on suspicion of possessing a firearm in a school zone after being medically cleared by La Verne firefighters. Court date information for Thompson was not available. |
