A passerby flagged down a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau March 10. The passerby reportedly heard the sounds of a woman screaming near the 6300 block of Stephens Ranch Road, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. San Dimas deputies responded around 8 p.m. to the area and reported hearing three to four rounds of gunfire and believed they were the targets, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. While deputies took refuge behind their patrol vehicle, backup and a helicopter arrived to safely evacuate deputies from the extremely dark location. Claremont Police and La Verne Police assisted with a perimeter while deputies conducted an extensive search, Sachs told SGV CityWatch. Jose Alfredo Padilla, 24, and Angel Valenzuela, 41, were both identified after a lengthy investigation, according to the La Verne Police Department. Police responded about 3:30 p.m. to the 2300 block of Arrow Highway July 21. When they arrived, officers were told that two men in a gray, older-model Chevy Suburban drove onto the construction site and entered a work truck. Three workers confronted the suspects and one of the suspects brandished a firearm, according to the La Verne Police Department. “One suspect pulled out a gun and the workers attempted to run. The suspect fired one shot striking the victim in the left foot,” according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspects fled eastbound in the Suburban. The shooting victim was hospitalized, treated and released that same day. Valenzuela was already in custody, arrested by the Pomona Police Department July 31 on an unrelated crime. He is also serving time on an unrelated case, according to the La Verne Police Department. Padilla was arrested August 6 by La Verne detectives at a Pomona residence. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Padilla and Valenzuela, including attempted murder, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Padilla was additionally charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Padilla is being held at the North County Correctional Facility in lieu of more than $3.1 million bail. Valenzuela is being held in lieu of nearly $2.2 million bail at the Pomona City Jail. The first reported attack occurred around 6:40 p.m. A man was shot at while walking in the area of Esperanza Drive and Golden Hills Road, according to the La Verne Police Department. Moments later, a woman walking in the area of Wheeler Avenue and Ruggles Street one mile away from the first attack reported she was also shot at, La Verne police said. Investigators are searching for the four suspects who may have been occupying a white four-door car, possibly a BMW or Lexus. Pellet gun attacks seem to be en vogue after a series of high profile shootings along freeways in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties have been happening at an alarmingly-frequent basis. The California Highway Patrol is investigating at least four more attacks Thursday that occurred along the 91 freeway and 22 freeway in Garden Grove and Corona. Three of the four attacks occurred before 6 a.m. along the westbound and 91 freeway near the 71 freeway. One shooting occurred Monday, May 17 on the southbound 57 freeway transition to the 91 freeway around 5 p.m. when a woman’s Toyota 4Runner was struck by a pellet. The window did not shatter, authorities said. Three other shootings occurred along the 91 freeway Monday in Santa Ana, Westminster and Santa Fe Springs. In the last few weeks, authorities believe as many as 60 pellet gun attacks have occurred. Victims have described seeing a white vehicle during the shootings, but a more concrete description of suspects and a vehicle have not been obtained, reportedly. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – The second and final suspect sought in the shooting of a man in La Verne was caught July 7, police said. The unnamed juvenile suspect was involved in a shooting after a verbal altercation broke out between the juvenile and a 21-year-old suspect in the 1700 block of D Street February 26, La Verne Police said. The first suspect arrested, John Sanchez Jr., a La Verne resident, was taken into custody March 3, La Verne Police said.
After the victim was shot in the February incident, he drove away from the scene. The suspects also fled the location. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds. He was treated for his injuries and released from a hospital. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed two charges against each suspect: attempted murder and shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle, La Verne Police said. The victim is in stable condition after being hospitalized. He was located by officers a few blocks from A Street and First Street after they responded to a gunfire call just before 1 p.m., according to the La Verne Police Department. The male was shot in the lower and upper torso. An investigation continues at A Street and Arrow Highway and Bonita Avenue and Esther Avenue. Traffic remains blocked to motorists and pedestrians. It is either still unknown or hasn’t yet been publicly shared if the shooting is gang related. The shooting was reported around 6:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of First Street. Witnesses saw the two men open fire, then flee into a grey or green vehicle, according to the La Verne Police Department. Police interviewed the intended victims in the home, but they refused to answer questions, La Verne Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – Two men in a white car opened fire on another man in a seemingly-unprovoked attack late Monday, police said.
The attack occurred at A Street and First Street around 11:07 p.m. The victim was walking near the intersection when two men in a white four-door vehicle quickly stopped near him. The men exited, revealed they were armed with handguns and opened fire, La Verne Police said. Officers responding to multiple calls of five to 10 gunshots heard near the intersection did not reveal a victim, however, he turned up later at San Dimas Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to a foot, La Verne Police said. The victim fled the from the men as they opened fire on him, ultimately hiding in the yard of a nearby home. The victim contacted a resident who drove him to the hospital, La Verne Police said.
