Detectives described the crime as a distraction burglary: the woman reportedly took the wallet while the man distracted her inside Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd., October 1 around 10:36 a.m., according to the La Verne Police Department. “The suspects entered and exited the store in under two minutes. The suspects used the victim’s stolen credit cards to make multiple purchases at Best Buy, Ulta, GameStop, and Kohls in the City of Glendora,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The first suspect is a Latino woman who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 350 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes and is 30 to 40 years old. The second suspect is a white man who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and is 20 to 25 years old. A man with a $2 million warrant for murder in San Bernardino County was arrested November 7 after La Verne Police caught him escaping a Vons supermarket with a basket loaded with 20 Tide laundry detergent bottles. The theft occurred at Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd. around 11:30 p.m. The suspect was being followed out by the store manager when Cpl. McKinley pulled up during a patrol of the area, according to the La Verne Police Department. The store manager did not desire prosecution, according to La Verne Police Community Service Officer Holly Savage. “Corporal McKinley made contact with the individual, who was found to have a $2 million warrant for murder out of San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office. He was held until SBSO detectives arrived to take him into custody," according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect's name has not been released. Investigators were notified of the potential theft April 27. Detectives determined that Las Vegas man Muhammad Rauf Ahmed, 45, stored some of the blank cards in his vehicle. A search of Ahmed’s hotel room yielded more blank cards, according to the La Verne Police Department. Ahmed was charged with one felony count of grand theft, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. “Selling fraudulent and stolen vaccine cards is illegal, immoral and puts the public at risk of exposure to a deadly virus,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a written statement. Ahmed was a non-clinical contracted employee hired to support the vaccination site, La Verne Police said. “Ahmed, who worked at the center, allegedly stole more than 500 cards, which have a value of at least $15 apiece if illegally sold,” prosecutors said. A criminal investigation was conducted with assistance from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Ahmed’s arraignment is scheduled for August 25 in Department F of Pomona Superior Court. A La Verne resident saw a strange man under his neighbor’s van and called police. The suspect fled the scene, but officers were able to find and stop the suspect with the help of the resident’s detailed description of the suspect’s vehicle, according to the La Verne Police Department. “Tools commonly used in the theft of catalytic converters were identified and found in plain view. Officers searched the vehicle and discovered a suitcase containing a freshly cut catalytic converter along with additional power tools and extra batteries.,” La Verne Police said in a written statement. Tony Contreras Farias, 37, was arrested and booked on felony charges. Farias was issued a citation and released, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The theft occurred at Grill House, 1204 Foothill Blvd., January 14. Officers investigating the theft patrolled the nearby area and found suspect Juan Martinez not too far from the crime scene about 45 minutes later, reportedly still in possession of the stolen tablets, according to the La Verne Police Department. Martinez, was booked for felony-level crimes at 3:29 p.m. and was issued a citation and released. He is scheduled to appear in court January 19, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Tran Van Cuong, 48, walked out of Target, 1600 Foothill Blvd., carrying the alcohol. He fled the store in a tan 2000 Lexus ES, according to the La Verne Police Department. Cuong was already on Post Release Community Supervision for robbery, according to the La Verne Police Department. The crime occurred Thursday, August 15 at Sprouts, 1375 Foothill Blvd., at 2 p.m. The two women pictured above distracted the shopper while the pictured male suspect opened the shopper’s purse to take the wallet, according to the La Verne Police Department. The shopper is an older woman and the three suspects are possibly associated with other crimes targeting other older victims, La Verne Police said.

The theft occurred at Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd. The suspect was seen on surveillance footage closely following the victim until he could take her wallet from her shopping cart, La Verne Police said. The stolen credit/access card was then used at multiple La Verne businesses.
The suspect is a Black man in his 40s or 50s. He wore a green shirt and a green hat which featured a gold silhouette of a bear. The suspect was caught on camera around 6:43 a.m. March 3. He fled in the silver Isuzu Rodeo two-door, which sports a black stripe on the hood and black plastic tarp tied to the rear. The Rodeo sports license plate number 4GGA809. The suspect is a white or Hispanic man with a heavy build and beard. He wore a grey hooded sweatshirt black baseball hat with a white logo on the front, black pants and dark shoes with white soles.

“Farnsworth ... informed Officers that he was concealing a 16-inch machete in his waistband as well as a meth pipe in his pocket,” La Verne Police said. “The subject also had in his possession a trash bag, containing mail addressed to residents of the 6900 block of Wheeler Ave.” Surveillance video from a nearby residence and positive identification from a witness led to Farnsworth’s arrest and booking on theft, carrying a concealed dagger and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which filed felony charges against Farnsworth, La Verne Police said. What became of the second person was not disclosed. |
