Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Two men were taken into custody after allegedly fleeing Covina police into La Verne, where their vehicle crashed and caught fire near a business February 13.
A Covina officer attempted to stop the driver of a black Audi around 12:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Grand Avenue. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase along Cienega Avenue east to northbound Glendora Avenue and then east along Arrow Highway all the way into La Verne, according to Lt. Zavala of the Covina police Department. The driver crashed into a computer business at 2100 Arrow Highway where he and his two passengers fled as the Audi caught fire. Officers were able to catch only two of the suspects, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Officers discovered and seized M30 pills: OxyContin laced with Fentanyl, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Gabriel Morales, a 20-year-old Huntington Park man, and Adrian Paredes, a resident of Maywood, were arrested. Morales is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Paredes was held for detention only and released February 14, County booking records show. Morales appeared in court February 15 and pleaded not guilty to one count of reckless evading a peace officer and to one count of hit and run causing property damage. |
