Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - A shooting victim crashed after fleeing the scene of the crime Tuesday night. The man was shot in one of his extremities in the 1700 block of South Mountain Avenue July 30 around 9:30 p.m. The victim drove himself from the scene and crashed near his home in the 400 block of Genoa Street, according to Sgt. John Donchig of the Monrovia Police Department. Officers initially responded to a traffic collision call on Genoa and discovered the driver was shot. The victim crashed into a curb. “We have one gunshot victim who was taken to a hospital. He is stable,” Donchig said. Officers recovered evidence related to the shooting, but Donchig did not know what was specifically recovered.
Donchig did not have any confirmation on suspect descriptions or a suspect vehicle and that the involvement of a second vehicle is unconfirmed. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - Sheriff’s detectives are assisting the Monrovia Police Department after a domestic violence suspect took a woman against her will, authorities said. A 31-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped by 27-year-old Robert Anthony Camou. The kidnapping was reported around 8:15 a.m. in the 600 block of Vaquero Road July 29, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Arriving Monrovia officers located evidence at the scene that an assault occurred at the home. The woman’s injuries are unclear. Camou and victim Amanda Kathleen Custer, are or have been dating and apparently have a history of domestic violence, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Custer was witnessed being placed in the rear hatch of a grey, four-door 2017 Toyota Prius with license plate 8AOR167.
Camou should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows either Custer’s or Camou’s whereabouts is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - The registered owner of a vehicle being repossessed was arrested July 13 after allegedly crashing into the truck being used to take the vehicle. The unidentified owner of the vehicle emerged from a home in the 100 block of West Central Avenue around 1:50 a.m. while her vehicle was being repossessed. She entered another vehicle and allegedly began attacking. “While a vehicle was being repossessed, the registered owner came out of her residence, entered another vehicle, and intentionally rammed into the truck that was repossessing her vehicle,” Monrovia Police said.
The suspect was arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Police have not given a time the checkpoint is scheduled to begin, only noting that drivers with be stopped and evaluated for proper licensing and possibly alcohol intoxication.
127 DUI collisions have occurred in Monrovia in the past three years with 32 of those resulting in injuries, Monrovia Police said. Checkpoint funding is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The injuries likely resulted from a suicide attempt in the 1600 block of Mountain Avenue July 5. One adult was taken to an area hospital. Their condition was not immediately known, according to Sgt. Glen Coleman of the Monrovia Police Department. The incident unfolded just before 3 p.m.
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station were initially called, but the incident was determined to be in Monrovia’s jurisdiction, Coleman said. No one else was involved or injured. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - A grand theft auto suspect hid a dunk in a pool Tuesday in an attempt to hide form Monrovia officers who gave chase. The suspect fled from a traffic stop at California Avenue and Duarte Road around 7:30 p.m. July 2. Police pursued a grey Toyota Tacoma which callers reported stolen during the chase, Monrovia Police said.
The grand theft auto occurred a few blocks from the start of the pursuit. The Tacoma crashed at Redell Avenue and Shrode Avenue in unincorporated Monrovia. The suspect fled on foot and hid in a nearby neighborhood, Monrovia Police said. A Pasadena Police helicopter, El Monte Police, Irwindale Police and Sheriff’s deputies helped Monrovia officers locate the man in a residential pool. He was arrested without further incident, Monrovia Police said. |
