Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - An officer was scraped up after being dragged about five feet by the driver of a stolen vehicle early Sunday. The incident occurred at West Chestnut Avenue and Monterey Avenue just after 1 a.m. A driver seated in a parked car was approached by a patrolling officer. The suspect began to put the car in gear when the officer was notified over the radio that the car was stolen, according to Sgt. Yolanda Juarez of the Monrovia Police Department. “As the officer was getting the driver out of the vehicle, the driver sped off on Chestnut. The officer who was holding on to the suspect’s upper body was dragged approximately five feet prior to the officer letting go,” Juarez told SGV CityWatch. The stolen rental car from Palm Springs was seen eastbound and out of view. The injured officer was treated at the Monrovia Police Department by Monrovia firefighters, Juarez said.
The driver is a Hispanic man in his late 20s with brown hair, brown eyes, has a thin build, a mustache and tattoos on his left wrist. He wore a dark-colored hat and varsity-style jacket. The front passenger is a Hispanic woman in her late 20s with blonde hair. Anyone with suspect information can call the Monrovia Police watch commander at 626-256-8000. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - First responders tried, but could not save a man who apparently leapt from a Monrovia hotel Friday night and died at the scene. A passerby witnessed the publicly-unidentified man fall from the fifth floor of the hotel in the 700 block of West Huntington Drive around 10:04 p.m. Arriving officers found a 54-year-old man on the ground, according to Sgt. Gerald DeHart of the Monrovia Police Department.
The incident unfolded at the Courtyard by Marriott, 700 Huntington Dr. August 16. The man was unconscious and bleeding from a head wound, DeHart said. DeHart declined to state if the man had family or friends inside the hotel. |
