Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA – A man armed with a handgun demanded money from a safe at Trader Joe’s October 12, a Monrovia Police sergeant said. The robbery unfolded around 8:53 p.m. at Trader Joe’s, 604 W. Huntington Dr. The suspect donned a mask and backpack when he entered the store. Once he took the cash, the suspect ran on foot and possible drove away in a black Dodge Charger, according to Sgt. William Burkhalter of the Monrovia Police Department.
No employees were harmed during the robbery, Burkhalter told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was described as a Black man in his 20s or 30s. He stood 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and also wore a sweatshirt, Burkhalter told SGV CityWatch. The shooting took place around 2:30 a.m. in the 800 block of West Foothill Boulevard. The victim was found wounded in a leg in an alley between North Garfield Place and North McKinley Place, according to Sgt. Chad Harvey of the Monrovia Police Department.
