Police were called to the 500 block of West Olive Avenue around 10:41 a.m. November 14. The resident found the woman rummaging through drawers and cupboards, according to the Monrovia Police Department. “The resident came home and detained the female who claimed she lived there,” according to the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. Officers arrived and found the resident had detained the woman. She was soon arrested. Officers were called to the business in the 100 block of West Foothill Boulevard around 3:50 a.m. after an alarm activated. Officers found a shattered glass door, according to the Monrovia Police Department. “Video surveillance showed three suspects enter the location and attempt to open the safe with a sledge hammer. They exited the building with approximately $30 in change from the register,” according to the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. Descriptions of the suspects were not provided. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - A man who brazenly broke into an occupied home was finally caught March 6 after being found on the roof of another home, police said.
The suspect, armed with a metal object, forced his way into one home and the 300 block of Linwood Avenue around before 8 a.m. Fearing for his safety, the resident attempted to flee, but the suspect apparently would not allow him to leave, according to the Monrovia Police Department. The suspect said he was looking for his sister and then searched each bedroom and closet inside of the home. He fled without harming the resident, Monrovia police said. A second resident reported the same suspect was attempting to break into his home as well, but the resident scared off the intruder by pointing a handgun at him. “The homeowner pointed a handgun at the suspect and told him to get off his property. The suspect complied,” according to the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. Police arrived and set up a containment. The suspect was located standing on the roof of a nearby home. He ran a short distance after jumping down from the roof, but officers were able to detain him and eventually took him into custody. A vigilant caller notified police of the burglary in progress at 12:23 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Myrtle Avenue. The men were witnessed breaking into the business. Monrovia officers surrounded the building with help from neighboring agencies, Monrovia Police said. “The two suspects exited the building with stolen items, but then ran back inside the building when they saw police,” Monrovia Police said in a written statement.
Police entered the building and found both suspects hiding in different areas of the business. One suspect was treated for unspecified injuries, Monrovia Police said. Both suspects were booked on suspicion of commercial burglary. A resident arrived home and heard noises in her rear yard in the 1800 block of South Peck Road just after 8:30 a.m. -- as if someone was breaking into her shed, Monrovia Police said. The publicly-unidentified suspect fled over a wall and ran across another property to escape officers.
“He opened the front door to a neighbor's house and was confronted by the homeowner inside the house,” Monrovia. Police said. The suspect was arrested and was eventually found concealing items stolen from the first victim’s shed. He also concealed items near the shed to return and take them later, including a rifle. Police did not state what type of rifle the suspect intended to take. The victim, an employee of an unnamed store in the 100 block of South Myrtle Avenue, had the jewelry, a reported $50,000 value, taken from the backpack she decided to take to work with her, Monrovia Police said. The burglary was reported around 6:47 p.m., but it was either unknown or undisclosed when the jewelry was taken. Officers were called to Kohl’s, 504 W. Huntington Dr., around 10:40 a.m. Sunday, May 6, after an employee detained the woman. The woman allegedly told the child, who is between 2 and 4 years old, to take toys without paying, Monrovia Police said in a written statement. The woman was not arrested, according to Lt. Jaime Alfaro of the Monrovia Police Detective Bureau. The Department of Child and Family Services was notified and charges will be brought against the mother, Monrovia Police said. The suspect or suspects entered the home through an unlocked door sometime before 9:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Hacienda. The resident arrived and found the home burglarized, Monrovia Police said. It was unclear if the shotgun was secured or left in the open. Dwayne Sims was arrested by Monrovia Police after fleeing the scene of a home burglary in the 600 block of Royal Oaks Drive. The homeowner arrived and discovered Sims inside his home around 12:11 p.m., Monrovia Police said. Sims ran from the home and into a vehicle. The homeowner chased Sims to his vehicle and as he looking in, the homeowner found property taken from his home the day prior, Monrovia Police said. Monrovia Police arrived and took Sims into custody. Sims was booked on suspicion of residential burglary and possession of stolen property. The burglary occurred around 11:04 a.m. in the 500 block of North Alta Vista. Police were dispatched to the home after being notified of a burglary alarm activation, Monrovia Police said in a written statement. Officers discovered the front door was open. Officers searched the home, but no one was inside. The homeowner arrived and informed officers that shotguns were taken along with jewelry, Monrovia Police said. The investigation is ongoing. |
