The crash occurred at Duarte Road and Fifth Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. September 8. First responders said the vehicle was fully engulfed with flames when they arrived, according to the Monrovia Police Department. First responders extricated burn victims from the vehicle. One of those victims was a child who suffered life-threatening injuries. The child died after being treated at Los Angeles General Medical Center, according to the Monrovia Police Department. It is not publicly clear what may have caused of the crash. The condition of any other surviving victims is not publicly known. The Arcadia Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team assisted with this collision investigation. Two taco stand employees, two patrons and the suspected DUI driver were hospitalized. Everyone suffered injuries considered not life-threatening, according to the Monrovia Police Department. First responders were called to the 3300 block of Peck Road around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, March 4. The suspected DUI driver crashed into a parked vehicle, which was then sent into the taco stand, according to the Monrovia Police Department. MONROVIA - At least one person was taken to a hospital after a multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig occurred Friday. Lanes 3 through 5 of the east 210 freeway just east of Buena Vista Street will be closed for an unknown duration. The HOV lane remains open, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers first responded to the multi vehicle collision at 5:47 a.m. January 14 for a motorcyclist down in the slow lane. A big rig involved reportedly began catching fire as officers were dispatched and possibly one other vehicle was already fully engulfed, according to CHP traffic logs. A motorcycle became lodged underneath the trailer the semi was hauling. Officers called for a heavy duty tow truck to lift the trailer off of the motorcycle. The fatal collision occurred around 4:26 a.m. The pedestrian died at the scene, according to Ramon Montenegro, public information officer for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The train was headed to Union Station when the collision occurred at California Avenue. Bus bridges were called to transport riders between the Arcadia and Duarte L Line stations. As of 7:03 a.m., trains experienced up to 15 minute delays as trains began moving again. Trains shared the Azusa-bound track, according to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The male driver in the truck died after his vehicle overturned and caught fire in the 500 block of North Magnolia Avenue. Officers were dispatched around 6:51 a.m., according to the Monrovia Police Department. “According to witnesses the driver was traveling approximately 100 MPH. The posted speed limit is 25 MPH,” the Monrovia Police Department said in a written statement. A picture posted to a Monrovia Facebook group showed the truck from a distance as it was burning up. The truck was likely northbound on Magnolia Avenue, crashed into a stone fence flipped over onto a resident’s property and then caught fire. It also appeared that trees on the property caught fire. No one else was injured in the crash. The Arcadia Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team responded to help Monrovia investigators. Police are setting up a perimeter search near where the crash happened after witnesses reported at least three men fleeing across freeway lanes and into business and residential areas below, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The crash occurred just after 11:30 a.m. on the eastbound 210 freeway near South Myrtle Avenue. A Sig Alert has been issued for one hour for the HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes of traffic. A vehicle only described as possibly white in color, overturned and eventually caught fire. A witness under the freeway reported three men running from the freeway. The Monrovia Police Department received multiple calls of the suspects fleeing in the area. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - A motorcyclist reportedly moving at 100 miles per hour while trying to pass another vehicle at an intersection was ejected from his ride after crashing, police said.
The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. at Grand Avenue and East Foothill Boulevard March 16. The other vehicle was being prepping to make a left turn at the intersection from Foothill Boulevard to Grand when the rider attempted to pass on the left broadsided it, according to the Monrovia Police Department. “The motorcycle collided into the driver’s side of the vehicle, which ejected the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital by Monrovia Paramedics, and is in stable condition,” Monrovia Police said in a written statement. The Arcadia Police Major Accident Investigation Team assisted in the investigation. In an interview with SGV CityWatch, Sgt. Glen Coleman said the rider was questioned after being hospitalized. Neither alcohol, nor drugs are believed to be factors in the crash. Coleman was not sure if the other driver was injured. Therese Papagayo, 36, died from blunt force traumatic injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Papagayo was holding her 15-month-old son when both were struck by a Metro L Line light rail train around 8:46 a.m. at California Avenue and Duarte Road April 15. Monrovia Firefighters declares both victims dead at 9 a.m., according to Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The toddler’s identity has yet to be revealed. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - One driver was critically injured, another fled the scene after a possible street race between two vehicles ended in a fiery crash Saturday afternoon, a Monrovia police lieutenant said.
The crash was reported to officers at 1:08 p.m. April 4 in the 1900 block of S. Myrtle Ave. Two vehicles were traveling at high speed southbound on Myrtle when an older Mustang crossed into opposing lanes and struck an SUV, according to Lieutenant Daniel Verna of the Monrovia Police Department. “In the 1900 block, the street curves. The driver that was closest to the center of the road apparently wasn’t able to make that turn,” Verna told SGV CityWatch. The racing Ford Mustang slammed into a northbound GMC SUV, The driver of which swerved in an attempt to avoid the Mustang, but they still collided. The Mustang’s driver was ejected and landed in the middle of the road. The front end of the mustang was torn off and the rest of the vehicle slammed into a power pole and burst into flames, Verna told SGV CityWatch. The GMC’s driver suffered major injuries, Verna said. A description of the vehicle that fled the crash was unavailable. Investigators were still trying to determine what color, make and model it is. The Mustang’s driver was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and if he survives, Verna said, he would be facing felony charges, including street racing and reckless driving, both of which caused major injuries. The 1800 and 1900 block of South Myrtle Avenue remains closed. The Arcadia Police Major Accident Investigation Team is assisting with the investigation. A vehicle traveling westbound in eastbound lanes of the 210 freeway struck another vehicle just east of Huntington Drive around 4:43 a.m. The wrong way vehicle was traveling at high speed in the HOV lane and was seen by other drivers as far back as Vernon Avenue in Azusa, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. One of the vehicles overturned. All eastbound lanes were initially closed for an investigation. Both on ramps from Huntington Drive to the eastbound 210 remain closed. The No. 4 lane was opened to traffic just after 6 a.m. |
