Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK – One person died in a crash on the westbound 60 freeway at Markland Drive early Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:08 a.m. April 28. It is not yet clear how the crash occurred, but initially a passerby reported a blacked out vehicle stopped in the middle lanes and an occupant standing outside the vehicle at 2:09 a.m. it is unclear when the person was hit, within an hour, CHP officers were requesting the coroner and that all lanes be shut down, according to CHP traffic logs. The CHP was also told of a vehicle stalled in the HOV lane after possibly hitting the center divider at 2:09 a.m. A person initially believed to be the driver fled to the right shoulder. At 2:35 a.m. all westbound lanes were closed, but by 2:47 a.m. the No. 5 lane was opened. By 5:14 a.m., all lanes were reopened. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - A shooter is on the loose after gunning down a man and woman at a restaurant Monday evening.
The shooting occurred just before 6:30 p.m. April 5 in a 500 block of West Garvey Avenue. Monterey Park police officers arrived to the scene and found the man and woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victims died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Witnesses believe that the suspect knew the victims and specifically targeted them. The suspect is described as an Asian man in his late 30s or early 40s, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
