Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – An attempted robbery is believed to be what led to a fatal shooting of an off-duty Monterey Park officer August 8.
Carlos Daniel Delcid, 20, faces one count each of murder, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon with the special circumstance that the murder was committed during a robbery, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. “On August 8, Officer Solorio had just arrived in a Downey parking lot when Delcid allegedly got out of a nearby vehicle and appeared to demand Solorio’s personal items. As Solorio put his car in reverse, the defendant allegedly shot Solorio five times at close range,” according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in a written statement. A 17-year-old driver took Delcid from the scene after the accused gunman re-entered the suspect vehicle. The teen has been filed on in juvenile court for his participation in the crime, according to the DA’s office. Gardiel Solorio, 26, began his field training with the Monterey Park Police Department in July. Delcid is being held without bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. He is scheduled for an appearance in the Downey courthouse August 11. |
