Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK – One person died in a crash on the westbound 60 freeway at Markland Drive early Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:08 a.m. April 28. It is not yet clear how the crash occurred, but initially a passerby reported a blacked out vehicle stopped in the middle lanes and an occupant standing outside the vehicle at 2:09 a.m. it is unclear when the person was hit, within an hour, CHP officers were requesting the coroner and that all lanes be shut down, according to CHP traffic logs. The CHP was also told of a vehicle stalled in the HOV lane after possibly hitting the center divider at 2:09 a.m. A person initially believed to be the driver fled to the right shoulder. At 2:35 a.m. all westbound lanes were closed, but by 2:47 a.m. the No. 5 lane was opened. By 5:14 a.m., all lanes were reopened. The chase ended in the underground parking structure. At least two suspects may be hiding and are cornered by CHP officers, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The suspects may be hiding in the restroom of the Tasty Garden, 500 N. Atlantic Blvd. There may be as many as two outstanding suspects in addition to the two holed up in the bathroom. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EAST LOS ANGELES - Two vandalism suspects were arrested Sunday after crashing their vehicle while fleeing Monterey Park Police.
Details are few, but the suspects were wanted by Monterey Park Police in connection with a vandalism at a city park, according to the California Highway Patrol. Monterey Park Police cancelled the pursuit due to the driver’s erratic behavior on the road, according to CHP radio traffic. A police helicopter located the suspects driving in excess of 100 miles per hour on the westbound 60 freeway into East Los Angeles just after 2 p.m. On surface streets, the suspect continued fleeing at high speed, driving in opposing lanes and running a vehicle off the road, according to CHP radio traffic. The suspect vehicle crashed into a traffic sign at North Brannick Avenue and Dozier Street where a brief foot pursuit ensued before the suspects were apprehended by East Los Angeles CHP units and Monterey Park Police. The Monterey Park Police Department has yet to return calls for information. |
