Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – An attempted robbery is believed to be what led to a fatal shooting of an off-duty Monterey Park officer August 8.
Carlos Daniel Delcid, 20, faces one count each of murder, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon with the special circumstance that the murder was committed during a robbery, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. “On August 8, Officer Solorio had just arrived in a Downey parking lot when Delcid allegedly got out of a nearby vehicle and appeared to demand Solorio’s personal items. As Solorio put his car in reverse, the defendant allegedly shot Solorio five times at close range,” according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in a written statement. A 17-year-old driver took Delcid from the scene after the accused gunman re-entered the suspect vehicle. The teen has been filed on in juvenile court for his participation in the crime, according to the DA’s office. Gardiel Solorio, 26, began his field training with the Monterey Park Police Department in July. Delcid is being held without bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. He is scheduled for an appearance in the Downey courthouse August 11. Roger Nava, 28, and Nayeli Crystal Molina, 30, were located and arrested. The duo was booked on suspicion of robbery, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. One of the suspects briefly struggled with a Home Depot Employee August 25 as they were leaving Home Depot, 3500 Market Place Dr., with stolen goods, Monterey Park Police said. After viewing footage, detectives believe the duo are responsible for multiple burglaries or robberies in the San Gabriel Valley. Additional charges may be filed. Nava and Molina are both held in lieu of $100,000 bail in the Monterey Park jail. Both made an initial appearance in Alhambra Superior Court September 10. |
