Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor Downey – Authorities announced Wednesday that arrests have been made in the murder of a rookie Monterey Park Police officer.
Detectives will reportedly share further details about the arrests in an afternoon news conference Wednesday. Gardiel Solorio, 26, was identified by the Monterey Park Police Department. The off-duty officer was found wounded by gunfire inside of his vehicle in the 12000 block of Lakewood Boulevard around 3:25 p.m. in a shopping center outside an L.A. Fitness Gym. Solorio was hired as a police officer recruit January 31, 2022. He attended the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy as part of Class 460, graduating July 22. Solorio wanted to make an impact on the community and provide a good example for his nephews, according to Monterey Park Police Chief Kelly Gordon.
