The collision occurred around 3:17 p.m. May 27 at the intersection of East Colorado Boulevard and North Oak Avenue, according to Lisa Derderian, public information officer with the City of Pasadena. “The other driver remained on scene and is cooperating. They are uninjured. The motor Officer was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries,” Derderian told SGV CityWatch. Drivers are asked to avoid Colorado at Oak during the investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA – A suspect was arrested May 7, accused of spraying a man with a flammable liquid and lighting him on fire onboard an L Line train, causing extensive burn injuries, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The attack was reported around 10:55 p.m. According to witness statements, the unidentified suspect, a female, possibly exchanged words with the man prior to the attack, but it appeared the suspect and man did not know each other and the attack was unprovoked, according to Ramon Montenegro, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The attack occurred near the Metro L Line Lake Station, Montenegro told SGV CityWatch After the man was set on fire, patrons aboard the railcar used what means they could to extinguish the flames. Patrons pointed out the suspect to deputies who took her into custody, Montenegro told SGV CityWatch. The injuries to the man, while extensive, are considered not life-threatening, Montenegro told SGV CityWatch. “So far, we’ve been able to ascertain there was no relationship between the two. There was no argument that occurred. For some reason she did this,” Montenegro told SGV CityWatch. The Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail is investigating. The suspect’s name has not been released. The Pasadena Police Department revealed that Ulises Nieto-Cabrera, 30, was targeted and intentionally set ablaze. Detectives want to speak with the persons whom they said have “intimate knowledge of Nieto-Cabrera’s murder.” Police were called to the 700 block of Rockwood Road New Year’s Day 2021 at 8 a.m. to a report of a man down. Nieto-Cabrera was found bloodied and severely burned. He later died at a hospital. Anyone with information on this murder is urged to call the Pasadena Police Department at 626-744-4241. Eric Thomas was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of a Medical Examiner-Coroner. Officers received an alert from their recently installed ShotSpotter system, which notifies law enforcement of potential gunfire at a specific location. Police also received a call of a man down around 8:48 a.m., according to the Pasadena Police Department. Thomas died at the scene in the 1700 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue May 2. Police were called around 8:42 p.m. to the location for a person down May 2. The city’s brand new Shot Spotter system also alerted police of multiple gunshots, according to Lt. Marsha Taglioretti of the Pasadena Police Department. “When our officers arrived they did find one person down, a male adult, and he was deceased,” Taglioretti told SGV CityWatch. Pasadena Police detectives have been notified and will be taking over the investigation. There is no suspect description yet available, Taglioretti told SGV CityWatch. |
