A pursuit wound its way through Pasadena surface streets. Eventually, the driver was reckless enough to warrant officers to back away to lessen the danger on the roadway, but the driver continued in an erratic fashion, forcing officers to reengage the suspect.
At the end of the pursuit at Allen Avenue and East Corson Street, the driver crashed head-on with a Pasadena police vehicle. The suspect opened fire at the police vehicle from inside the sedan. A bullet cracked the officer’s windshield. The suspect exited his vehicle and fired at a second Pasadena officer who then shot back. Additional officers opened fire and took the suspect down. He died at the scene. During the gunfire, a Pasadena police officer was struck on the leg by a bullet fired by one of his colleagues. The officer was not critically injured. The suspect, 47-year-old San Diego man Lloyd Nelson, was identified as a former police officer in Los Angeles County, a former Pasadena resident and military veteran. Nelson’s motives that day remain unclear. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - Three suspects allegedly involved in a shooting June 12 were arrested after one of the suspects crashed their ride, police said. All three suspects, described as Pasadena residents, were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon: 24-year-old Antonio Lizarraga, 30-year-old Michael Vasquez and a teen male. An argument between people occupying three vehicles led to a shooting near Morton Avenue and Mountain Street around 8 p.m. Friday. The victims were unharmed, drove from the shooting and fled on foot. They ran to officers searching for the source of gunfire, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
After receiving vehicle descriptions, officers located and stopped one suspect vehicle near Maple Street and Los Robles Avenue. Two suspects were taken into custody. The second suspect vehicle crashed into a tree near Forest Avenue and Claremont Street. After a lengthy search, the third suspect was arrested, Pasadena Police said. |
