Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - Two Monrovia men were jailed in the days following a reported botched robbery and drug deal, police said. Lamarr Marquise McDaniels II, 24, was arrested in Monrovia August 10. Trevor James Dorman, 19, was arrested August 14 in Covina, both accused of taking part in the shooting death of Anthony Michael Tafoya Ortiz, according to Pasadena Police. Ortiz, a Los Angeles man, was found suffering a gunshot wound in the 100 block of Painter Street around 10:49 a.m. Friday, August 9. Ortiz was in grave condition when transported to a nearby hospital. He died Sunday, August 11 around 10:36 a.m., Pasadena Police said in a written statement.
McDaniels was arrested in Monrovia. Dorman was arrested in Covina, Pasadena Police said. The suspects were booked on suspicion of murder, conspiracy and attempted robbery. McDaniels was additionally booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm. Dorman is being held in lieu of $3 million bail. McDaniels is being held in lieu of nearly $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The collision occurred in westbound lanes of the 210 freeway near Sierra Madre Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. A fire ignited after the collision occurred, which was reported around 6:08 p.m. August 15. The westbound HOV and No. 1 lane are blocked until at least 7:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Trains in both directions are stopped. It is unclear if there has been any damage to Gold Line equipment.
