Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - A 45-minute neighborhood search yielded a burglary suspect who stole the bank keys to a Chase Bank and made his way inside, Police said Wednesday.
The unidentified suspect burglarized the vehicle to a Chase Bank employee who lives in Arcadia, obtained the keys to the Bank located near California Boulevard and Pasadena Avenue and entered around 7:30 p.m., according to the Pasadena Police Department. The Chase Bank corporate offices alerted police to the burglary inside the bank. The suspect searched through employee desks when Pasadena officers arrived and located the suspect inside the bank. The suspect fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood and sparked a lengthy search. The suspect was apprehended and a search of his person revealed the bank keys in his pocket, Pasadena Police said. The suspect also stole identification and credit cards belonging to the bank employee, Pasadena Police said. It was unclear how the suspect knew the stolen keys would work at that particular bank. A person called Pasadena Police and reported an armed man wearing camouflage at Whole Foods, 465 S. Arroyo Pkwy., just before 11 a.m. November 22. Police searched for about 40 minutes, but found no one armed, according to Lt. Marie Sell of the Pasadena Police Department. Shoppers took to social media, recalling the search just minutes after officers arrived. Officers appeared to have people very casually exit Whole Foods in groups. Some drivers were denied entry into a nearby parking structure. Some officers were armed with rifles. It is unclear if the caller gave information as a prank, or was possibly spooked by someone wearing camouflage clothing. “We do have a name and number, but when we tried to call back the person didn’t answer the phone,” Sell said. A Sig Alert, issued at 4:08 a.m., has been extended to around 9 a.m. and affects the westbound HOV, No. 1, 2 , 3 and 4 lanes of traffic at Sierra Madre Villa. only the No. 5 lane is open, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision occurred just before 2 a.m.
The big rig and tractor trailer swerved across lanes and smashed through the divider. The driver was apparently uninjured in the crash, according to the CHP. No other vehicles were involved. The suspect pried open an entire panel of secured mailboxes affixed to a wall in the 30 block of South Wilson Avenue and stole various pieces of mail, according to the Pasadena Police Department. The suspect quickly fled the apartment complex. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic in his late 20s, 5-foot-6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, has a light to medium complexion and has a thin mustache. He wore a backwards Los Angeles Dodgers hat, a dark shirt and vest, dark shorts and black and white tennis shoes. The arrest of four people and seizure of 168 pounds of marijuana were made at two dispensaries, 1460 and 170 E. Walnut St. During the issuance of search warrants. $5,000 in cash was also seized, according to the Pasadena Police Department. 44-year-old Jose Cano of Huntington Park, 20-year-old Vanessa Munoz of Monrovia, 22-year-old Jocelyn Munoz of Pasadena and 20-year-old Monica Sandoval of Pasadena were arrested and booked on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sales, Pasadena Police said.

The checkpoint will be scheduled during 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, November 10. Checkpoint locations are based on collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests, Pasadena Police said.
