The pedestrian was struck and killed around 1 a.m. in the area of West First Street and South Hamilton Boulevard, according to Sgt. Gibson of the Pomona Police Department. “I don’t know if they were crossing, trying to beat the train, but they came in contact with the train,” Gibson told SGV CityWatch. Gibson did not know the gender or age of the pedestrian killed. At 2:17 a.m., the Pomona Police Department sent out an email alert asking drivers to avoid the railroad crossings along West First Street from Hamilton to North San Antonio Avenue. At 4:30 a.m. the Pomona Police Department announced that traffic was no longer on detour. The arrests and seizure of the weapons were possible after a caller reported gang activity in the 600 block of Roderick Avenue around 8:42 p.m. January 19. Some of the men arrested were documented gang members, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department did not state which of the arrestees were identified as gang members. The location was the scene of a recent drive-by shooting, the Pomona Police Department said. With the help of additional officers, the four men, who were also drinking in publicin and around parked vehicles, were detained. A search of the men and the associated vehicle uncovered the four loaded handguns, the Pomona Police Department said. Arrested were:

Diaz was additionally booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Officers were dispatched to the tracks adjacent to the 1600 block of West Second Street at 6:26 p.m. January 16 after an unknown caller reported the wounded man. Los Angeles County Firefighters declared the man dead at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. Detectives do not have a suspect, or a motive. Officers responded to a gunshot victim call in the 700 block of East Holt Avenue around 1:30 a.m. January 5 and found a victim. The man was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the Pomona Police Department. Homicide detectives with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit are investigating. They state a motive and suspect are unknown. The collision occurred on the westbound I-10 freeway just east of Towne Avenue around 7:49 p.m. A vehicle described as a white sedan reportedly struck the center divider, spun out and stopped near the right shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. At least one caller reported the driver was in and out of lanes and speeding prior to the crash. Caltrans is assisting with a hard closure. |
