Rigoberto Perez, 35, was taken into custody and has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. He is accused of being the gunman in a failed robbery May 31, 2018 at an Arco gas station in the 800 block of Rio Rancho Road. A teen boy was shot and injured, Pomona Police said. Three other suspects were already in custody. Perez is on AB109 for narcotics, Pomona Police said. Perez is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles Municipal Court Tuesday, February 26. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A teen boy was reportedly shot in his neighborhood Monday night. NBC4 and ABC7 are reporting the boy, possibly 15 years old, was shot near his mother while he rode his scooter in the 1300 block of West Third Street. The boy was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he later died. The incident was reported just after 7 p.m. An unknown suspect began firing from a vehicle that stopped along the street.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7:11 p.m. They arrived on scene at 7:20 p.m. and transported the victim, according to Cpt. Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “After experiencing such a decline in violence over the last several months, this is disheartening,” said Pomona Police Chief Michael Olivieri in a social media post. “Trust that we will devote a high level of resources to identify and arrest the suspect(s) responsible. Our condolences to the victim’s family.” Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - The driver of a 1990 Lexus LS400 was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after a crash with a parked big rig killed his passenger, the California Highway Patrol said. Nathan Renee Anaya, 26, from Upland, was eastbound on the I-10 freeway at Orange Grove in the No. 4 lane at an unknown speed around 12:22 a.m. when he crashed into a 2009 Freightliner tractor trailer parked on the right shoulder, the CHP said. Anaya’s passenger died at the scene. Anaya received lacerations to his face and was hospitalized at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. The driver of the big rig was uninjured. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - The No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes of the eastbound I-10 freeway at North Orange Grove Boulevard are blocked after a sedan and big rig collided, killing one and injuring one. The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol around 12:22 a.m. The CHP and Los Angeles Firefighters were told of at least one person trapped and fatalities in the crash, but only one fatality was reported.
The Sig Alert was issued at 12:35 a.m. for one hour, according to Officer Patrick Kimball of the CHP Traffic Management Center. One patient was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Captain Ron Haralson. The occupant killed was partially ejected in the crash, according to CHP radio traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A stolen vehicle suspect remains at large after he ditched his stolen ride and fled Pomona Police on foot. The Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen February 12 out of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office. Pomona Police found it and attempted to stop the driver in the 1800 block of West Orange Grove Avenue, according to Lt. Bert Sanchez of the Pomona Police Department. The pursuit began around 9:30 p.m. February 16.
The pursuit found its way to the northbound 57 freeway where the driver exited onto Covina Boulevard in San Dimas. Pomona officers lost sight of the vehicle near the 210 freeway and Lone Hill Avenue. According to San Dimas Sheriff’s radio traffic, Pomona officers were able to track the suspect by triangulating a cell phone signal. Whose cell phone it was is not known. The Jeep Cherokee was found abandoned in the parking lot of the Bargain Store, 1499 W. Arrow Hwy. San Dimas deputies and the Glendora Police Department searched neighborhoods north of the shopping center, but the suspect was not located. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A suspect was arrested Thursday after investigators identified her as the person who allegedly fired off an assault weapon near the 300 block of Alvarado Street. Jazmine Renea Pratcher, 26, was taken into custody by the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force around 1:30 p.m. A high-powered, short barrel, large-caliber assault weapon with a large capacity magazine and other evidence related to the shooting was recovered during a warrant search of the suspect’s home and car, Pomona Police said.
Officers responded to the area of North Gibbs Street and East Alvarado Street. around 8:07 p.m. February 13 on reports of rapid gunfire. Multiple spent shell casings from a large-caliber weapon were recovered, Pomona Police said, but a suspect was not located after a warrant search of two apartments was conducted where the evidence was found. The Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit conducted a follow-up and by using surveillance video of the shooting, developed a description of the shooter. The Major Crimes Task Force conducted surveillance on Pratcher’s home and detained her once she exited. Pratcher was booked on suspicion of possessing an assault rifle, possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a short barrel rifle, being a felon in possession of ammunition and negligent discharge of a firearm. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A LaVerne woman was arrested Saturday after admitting to lifting a gold necklace from a Pomona pawn shop and committing the same crime in Chino. Marina Monique Ortiz, 18, is accused of stealing “an expensive gold necklace” from AJ’s Super Pawn, 496 E. Holt Ave., February 9. She allegedly pretended to be a customer and fled with the necklace when it was removed from a glass case, Pomona Police said.
Ortiz fled the business on foot and was last seen in a nearby neighborhood. Police somehow tracked down Ortiz to a La Verne home. She confessed to Pomona officers that not only did she take the gold necklace, but committed a similar crime in Chino, Pomona Police said. Ortiz apparently sold the necklace to purchase other items, Pomona Police said. Ortiz was booked on suspicion of grand theft and commercial burglary. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A gang member’s quick thinking wasn’t quick enough as police recovered a handgun moments after he tossed the firearm to hide it from police Saturday. Jose Enrique Gonzalez, 27, a prior felon on active parole, was arrested after police recovered the loaded semi-automatic pistol with an illegal high-capacity magazine he tossed in nearby bushes, Pomona Police said. Undercover officers with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force were in the area of East Ninth Street and South Linden Street around 6:39 p.m. February 9 when they witnessed a large group of gang members filming a rap video, Pomona Police said.
“Officers observed one of the gang members, later identified as suspect Gonzalez, making movements that indicated he was in possession of a firearm. When officers closed in on the group, suspect Gonzalez threw a firearm from his body just prior to police contact,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Gonzalez was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying an unregistered firearm, possessing a large capacity magazine, being a felon in possession of ammunition and for a parole violation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man was arrested Wednesday after he rammed a Pomona Police officer’s patrol vehicle multiple times, rammed parked vehicles and slammed through a wall before fleeing on foot. The unidentified suspect was spotted near Mission Boulevard and Elm Street February 6. After finding the suspect parking the stolen Audi A3 in the stall of an automotive business in the 1500 block of East Mission, officers attempted a traffic stop.
The suspect was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on an officer, vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The fall occurred at the 340 Club, 340 S. Thomas St., around 11:30 p.m. A 25-year-old Long Beach man fell and severely injured himself after an employee summoned security to deal with him, Pomona Police said. The man allegedly appeared intoxicated when he climbed into a restricted area. When the employee returned with security, the man was found unconscious on the first floor, Pomona Police said. |
