Paul Robert Jones III was encountered by police who responded to a caller claiming to have been stabbed in the 1100 block of Brewster Drive around 8:08 a.m. June 28. He suffered from a cut on his arm, according to the Pomona Police Department.
As officers approached the front door, they heard a voice inside asking for help.Once in the home, officers found Marshonn Jones, 54, deceased, the Pomona Police Department said. Paul Robert Jones Sr., 76, was hospitalized. The motive remains unclear. Jones III was booked on suspicion of murder. The scene unfolded inside a home on Brewster Drive near North Signal Drive just after 8 a.m. June 28. The suspect is known to both victims, according to Lt. Steve Congalton of the Pomona Police Department, but the lieutenant did not know the precise relation to the victims. Congalton believes someone from inside the home called police. Investigators remain on scene to determine what led to the assault, Congalton told SGV CityWatch. The surviving victim was hospitalized, but Congalton did not have a current condition for the victim. A motive is either unknown, or has yet to be publicly revealed. Firefighters responded to Mission Family Restaurant, 888 W. Mission Blvd., sometime before 4 a.m. Sunday. No one was injured, but the restaurant was a total loss. Officers received information that the fire was intentionally set. “With help from our HEART Unit (Cpl. Dinh and Officer Hayward), they were able locate the suspect near Second St.,” according to the Pomona police department in a written statement. The suspect, 27-year-old Jada Regina Osteen, was located in the area of South Rebecca Street and West Second Street, several blocks north of the fire. Osteen was booked on suspicion of arson at the Pomona jail, Pomona Police said. Osteen was transferred to and remains held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. She is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. The restaurant, which opened its doors in 1958, closed down in 2013. Firefighters responded to Holt Avenue west of San Antonio Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. Monday to a vehicle fully-engulfed with flames. Upon extinguishing the fire, the grizzly discovery was made, according to the Pomona Police Department. The cause of death will be determined by the county coroner. The suspect, Gerald Dominguez, a 52-year-old resident of Azusa, was taken into custody after fleeing into two homes, one of them occupied. A police officer helped convince Dominguez to surrender peacefully, according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. The stabbings occurred at the Pomona Transit Center, 100 W. Commercial St. Dominguez stabbed one rider who is sleeping and stabbed another in the arm, according to the Pomona Police Department. Dominguez, still armed with a knife, fled into an occupied home and encountered a woman in the 400 block of West Monterey. The suspect fled into another home in the 400 block of N. Rebecca St. where he remained for a few hours. “Officers and our Crisis Negotiation officers arrived and saw the suspect inside and armed with the knife. For almost 2 hours, Officer Megan Gonzalez attempted to de-escalate the situation and get the suspect to safely surrender,” Pomona Police said. The fire has burned an estimated 5 acres as of 6:55 p.m. The fire is burning in light to medium grass uphill. And there are no structures threatened at this time, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire is zero percent contained, with access made difficult by nearby railroad tracks, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire has a potential to burn an estimated 25 acres, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The California Highway Patrol has received a report of a man in a white tank top seen leaving where the fire ignited. One report states the man was setting something on fire, another report states that the man was also trying to extinguish the fire with a jug of water. A full brushfire response is arriving to the scene. The suspects attempted to rob the carrier at gunpoint in the 600 block of East Jefferson Avenue around 11 a.m. The suspects emerged from an older-model silver Toyota Corolla and attempted to rob the carrier, according to the United States Postal Inspection Service. A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of both suspects. Both suspects are Black men with thin builds. One suspect appears to be 5 feet 7 inches tall, 19-22 years old, wore what appeared to be a long sleeve gray shirt or sweatshirt, dark-colored pants, a light-colored hat and a blue mask. The second suspect appears to be 5 feet 3 inches tall, wore all dark clothing, including a black hooded sweatshirt and he wore what appears to be a white mask.
