Humane Wy. Firefighters were dispatched at 4:46 a.m. July 27, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. By 5:42 a.m., several water drops helped to keep flames from progressing further, a battalion chief said.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened. This is the second fire to have sparked in the area. A smaller fire was fought June 4 behind the reclamation plant and was held to one acre. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man died in a Pomona neighborhood Thursday night, a police lieutenant said. The man died in the area of Grand Avenue and Dudley Street July 25. Officers initially responded to a reported gunshot victim and found a male subject down, according to Lt. Steve Congalton of the Pomona Police Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7:32 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Martn Rangel. The scene is still being worked by officers. A possible suspect description was not available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police continue their search for a suspect after a man was shot to death in the Fairplex Park & Ride July 20. 24-year-old Budd Rashad Jamal of Long Beach was killed in the shooting that occurred around 10:17 p.m. Saturday. Many people were returning to their vehicles at the Park & Ride, 1810 Gillette Rd., according to the Pomona Police Department.
A crowd was returning to the Park & Ride after having left a party when gunfire rang out. Police have either no suspect description, or have yet to reveal one. The victim was reportedly found near the 1800 block of Gillette Road. Officers originally responded to a shots fired call by partygoers returning to their parked vehicles at the Fairplex Park & Ride around 10:17 p.m., according to the Pomona Police Department. It is not yet clear if a suspect description is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A family pet was murdered July 16 and Pomona detectives are looking for the man responsible. The incident occurred in a resident’s yard in the 800 block of East Second Street. The suspect chased the dog around the front yard and used what was described as a large-edged weapon to kill the dog — the whole thing caught on surveillance camera, Pomona Police said. The suspect may be a transient who resides in and frequents the 800 block of East Second Street. He is described as a male Hispanic or Caucasian, 30 to 35 years old. He stands about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds.
The suspect wore a a fisherman-style hat, a grey t-shirt, shorts, black socks and sandals. Anyone who has suspect information is urged to call Pomona Police at 909-620-2085. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Two men burst into an illegal marijuana dispensary July 14 and took an undisclosed amount of product and money, police said. The robbery occurred in the 300 block of North Park Avenue around 7:21 p.m. Both suspects were masked and armed. One of them fired one round in the business during the robbery, Pomona Police said. Both suspects fled on foot.
No one was injured. While a robbery investigation is underway, a separate criminal investigation was started for the illegal dispensary, which was shut down just one week prior, Pomona Police said. Patrols will take place in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and DUI arrests, according to the Pomona Police Department.
In 2018, Pomona police investigated 127 DUI collisions. One person was killed and 49 people were injured, Pomona Police said. Geronimo Martinez Jr. was arrested at his workplace and booked in the Pomona jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after the District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant, Pomona Police said.
The Pomona Police Major Accident Investigation Team completed the investigation in February and submitteed the case with the county DA. The fatal crash occurred at Mission Boulevard and Eleanor Street in 2016 around 7:40 p.m. The pedestrian, 78-year-old Luis Salazar Sierra, died at the scene. Martinez remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Pomona Police said. |
