Officers found the man with head trauma, unconscious and down in the area of Holt Avenue and White Avenue August 28. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and confirmed the man had died from his wounds, according to the Pomona Police Department. Officers were initially called at 10:30 p.m. to a report of a person down at the location. The investigation is being handled by the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. Officers with the Pomona Police Department Major Crimes Task Force stopped the driver for equipment violations near Eighth Street and Elm Street around 5:08 p.m. The officers recognized a passenger as a known probationer, according to the Covina Police Department. The driver, 37-year-old James Herrera, consented to a vehicle search and the weapons were discovered near the driver’s seat, Pomona Police said. Herrera, a Pomona man, was arrested along with 32-year-old passenger John Barron of Ontario. “Herrera admitted to possessing the firearms and attempting to conceal them from the officer’s,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Herrera was booked on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle and possession of an unregistered firearm. Barron was booked on a felony no-bail warrant. The girl was found near Indian Hill Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue after several complaints about females loitering in the area. She was wearing revealing clothing and approached lone male motorists, according to the Pomona Police Department. “After determining her actions were consistent with loitering for prostitution, she was contacted. During the contact it was discovered the female was 16 years old and was a reported missing person from San Bernardino County,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. There are now 16 cases of juvenile human trafficking in Pomona in 2021, the Pomona Police Department said. The girl was released to the custody of the San Bernardino County Department of Children and Family Services. The incident was handled by the Pomona Police Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking Team. Police responding to a call of a victim down from gunfire found a man severely wounded near West Second Street and the 71 freeway around 12:30 a.m. August 6. County firefighters arrived and declared the man dead, according to the Pomona Police Department. It is not publicly clear if the man was shot there, or shot elsewhere and his body dumped.
