The victim was found by police officers in an alley behind the 2400 block of Angela Street just after 7:70 p.m. August 28. The publicly-unidentified was declared dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Firefighters, according to the Pomona Police Department. “Homicide Detectives from the Pomona Police Departments Major Crimes Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The motive for the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been identified. This is not believed to be a random attack,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Officers responded to Val Vista Street and Paige Drive around 5:17 p.m. August 21 to the collision and found a truck had struck a bicyclist. The rider was found unresponsive at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The unidentified rider was hospitalized, but died a short time later. “It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – Bomb squad technicians safely secured and rendered safe an explosive device found on a patient who was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Monday night for treatment.
Security at the hospital, 1798 N. Garey Ave., called the Pomona Police Department. A PVC pipe with endcaps and a fuse was located and an explosives detection K9 at the hospital alerted to the device, according to the Pomona Police Department. The patient arrived by ambulance form West Covina. “Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center was not evacuated but as a precaution the main entrance to the emergency room was shut down and ambulances were rerouted to other local hospitals for approximately one hour,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Orange Grove Avenue was also shut down between Artesia Street and Tate Avenue. Pomona investigators do not believe the hospital was the target and that the patient was merely in possession of the device. Investigators are working with an “allied agency” to determine the patient’s identity and where they reside. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A Pomona man was arrested August 7 after being hit with bean bag rounds after assaulting an officer by throwing a pocket knife at him, the Pomona Police Department said.
Jose Luis Hernandez, 42, allegedly refused to comply with the commands of officers who responded to Hamilton Boulevard and Second Street to calls of gunfire. After officers detained two men matching suspect descriptions, Hernandez became uncooperative. “The suspect armed himself with a pocket knife and threw it at a group of Officers, striking one of our Officers. Officers made multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation but were unsuccessful. The suspect was struck with bean bag rounds and taken into custody,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Multiple shell casings were located along with four firearms, according to the Pomona Police Department. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $950,000 bail. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested August 3, accused of dumping a substantial amount of crack cocaine out of the vehicle he drove after a fender bender, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Oscar Dimas, 26, was involved in a traffic collision at South Garey Avenue and Market Place. Officers were called to the scene at 10:18 p.m. Dimas was seen dumping items on the side of the road. Officers discovered 22 kilograms of cocaine were dumped, according to the Pomona Police Department. Dimas was charged with one count of transportation of a controlled substance. Dimas is being held without bail. He was also wanted out of San Bernardino County for possession of narcotics and possession of a controlled substance for sale, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records. Dimas made scheduled appearances in the Pomona courthouse August 5 and August 8. He is next scheduled to appear September 6, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records.
