Officers discovered nearly two pounds of methamphetamine and a loaded handgun after stopping a driver for vehicle code violations in the 600 block of North Currier Avenue September 22. After writing a search warrant connected to the driver, officers seized more meth from a local hotel room, according to the Pomona Police Department. During a second, separate traffic stop in the area of the I-10 freeway and Fairplex Avenue, a large amount of cash and methamphetamine was also recovered, Pomona Police said. Four suspects were arrested and booked at the Pomona Police jail on suspicion of a variety of charges. Officers responding to the 400 block of South Garey Avenue found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound around 1:53 a.m., according to the Pomona Police Department. Police received a 9-1-1 call from the suspect in the 1600 block of South Huntington Drive who advised he wanted to die “suicide by cop” and ended the call. Minutes later, police received 9-1-1 calls of a house fire at the location, Pomona Police said. Arriving officers were met by the injured suspect who fled on foot, but he was quickly captured and the house fire extinguished, Pomona Police said. Minimal damage was caused to the house. The unidentified man killed himself before school hours. There are no signs of foul play and a weapon was found near the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Police were called to the school, 475 Bangor St., at 8:55 a.m. The case is now being investigated by Pomona Police detectives and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The body of a male in his early 20s was found, but it is unclear if the body was near the baseball or football fields, according to Pomona Police Public Information Officer Aly Mejia. Firefighters were dispatched at 8:58 a.m. to the high school, 475 Bangor St. Firefighters staged outside of the school until officers could clear and secure the scene, according to Inspector Gustavo Medina of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No foul play is suspected, Mejia said. No suspect is being sought. Alberto Ramon Peraza, 25, was found after a thorough search by Pomona Police officers who recovered evidence of the robbery, according to Pomona Police Sergeant D. Brown. Officers responded to Holt Avenue and Reservoir Street at 2:21 a.m. September 17 and found a woman who claimed she was raped and robbed at knifepoint inside a dark-colored 2006 Infiniti four-door. Police began a search, using a suspect and vehicle description, ultimately locating the unoccupied Infiniti in the mobile home park, Brown said. It is unclear how Pomona officers were led to Montclair, or why the victim got into the suspect’s vehicle. “With the assistance of the Montclair Police Department, Pomona officers surrounded the residence in question and called out its occupants. One of the occupants was the suspect, Alberto Ramon Peraza,” Brown said. The victim positively identified Peraza as the suspect. Peraza was arrested at 5 a.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Peraza is being held in lieu of $1 million bail scheduled to appear in Pomona Superior Court Wednesday, September 19. Paul Wiley was arrested in a residential yard after fleeing police on foot in the 2100 block of North Towne Avenue September 1. Wiley is wanted in connection for an attempted murder that occurred recently, Pomona Police said. Police conducted surveillance in the area of Towne Avenue and Arrow Highway after being tipped off to Wiley’s whereabouts. Officers attempted to pull Wiley over after seeing him driving a white Volkswagen. Once they arrived back after giving chase to Wiley, officers confiscated a loaded shotgun in the front passenger seat and learned Wiley’s girlfriend, 27-year-old Carla Ramirez, was also an occupant along with their infant son, Pomona Police said. The couple admitted to officers that they knew the shotgun was present, Pomona Police said. Wiley was booked on suspicion of attempted homicide, being a gang member in possession of a firearm, being a gang member in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon while driving and willful child endangerment. Ramirez was arrested and booked on suspicion of willful child endangerment and being in a vehicle with a concealed weapon. Hospital staff notified police that the 12-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries, according to Lt. Marcus Perez of the Pomona Police Department. Foothill Boulevard will be closed from Garey Avenue to Sumner Avenue for at least several hours in both directions, Perez said. The Pomona Police Major Accident Investigation Team is on scene. Corey Wright was taken into custody near San Antonio and Towne avenues around 7:36 p.m. after leading officers on a short foot pursuit when they attempted to contact him, Pomona Police said. A loaded firearm was recovered. Pomona officers with the department’s Major Crimes Task Force were conducting high-visibility patrols in the 2200 block of North Towne Avenue due to recent incidents involving weapons. An officer monitoring the football crowd recognized Wright, having seen him in a recent gang posting on Facebook, Pomona Police said. Wright was denied access to the game and he left on foot when he was met by and fled from Pomona officers. Wright was booked on suspicion of being a gang member in possession of a loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm while not being the registered owner and possessing a loaded firearm in a school zone. |
