Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police arrested a speeding motorcyclist Thursday after he was found carrying an unregistered .45-caliber handgun in what officers described as a fanny pack. 19-year-old Chino Hills man Chase Riffner was one of three reckless motorcyclists stopped by officers from the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force officers in the area of Grand Avenue East of White Avenue just before 7 p.m. September 24. Officers located in the weapon during a pat down, according to the Pomona Police Department. Riffner was booked on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm and for possessing an unregistered firearm, the Pomona Police Department said. The crash occurred around 4:48 p.m. on eastbound Arrow High way at Yorkshire Way. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department began treating the driver, but he died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged an alleged drunk driver in a horrific crash that left a vehicle embedded into a home and a woman dead. Carmelino Martinez Ordonez, 33, faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He is accused of crashing into a home at Hamilton Boulevard and Colony Drive around 9:21 p.m. September 17, according to the Pomona Police Department. 59-year-old Yolanda Bozonier was inside the home and was fatally struck by a blue 2004 PT Cruiser allegedly driven by Ordonez.
Ordonez allegedly attempted to flee the crash on foot, but was detained by residents nearby. Ordonez was also driving without a license, according to the City of Pomona. “While the intersection meets all current safety standards, the City will assess the site for potential intersection enhancements,” the City of Pomona said in a written statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - An accused DUI driver was booked on suspicion of manslaughter and felony DUI after crashing through a home in Pomona Thursday night, killing a woman inside.
The collision occurred around 9:21 p.m. September 17 near the corner of Hamilton Boulevard and Colony Drive. Despite being helped by Los Angeles county firefighters, the woman died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The vehicle, which appeared to be a PT Cruiser, became embedded in one corner of the home. The driver, who Pomona police Lieutenant Ryan Rodriguez would not identify, was apparently driving southbound on Hamilton Boulevard at a high rate of speed before the collision occurred. “At this time, it appears alcohol was a factor in this collision,” Pomona police said in a written statement. The unidentified 33-year-old driver is being transferred from Pomona to a Los Angeles County jail facility, Rodriguez told SGV CityWatch. Police found the 36-year-old man down, gravely wounded in the 3100 block of Pomona Boulevard September 11. Firefighter paramedics and officers aided the man, but he died from his wounds, according to the Pomona Police Department. Police were dispatched around 1:43 p.m. Police apparently do not have a suspect description or a motive. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A man was jailed Wednesday in a series on vandalisms committed at a Pomona residence. Through the investigation, detectives learned suspect Mel Fredric Brencius, 47, is suspected committing further vandalism and additional crimes in Hacienda Heights, Fullerton, Irvine, San Dimas and Idyllwild. In addition to vandalism, Brencius is accused of stalking and criminal threats, according to the Pomona Police Department. “The suspect was pouring paint on the victim’s houses, vehicles, and slashing their tires,” Pomona Police said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed 18 counts against Brencius, which include felony vandalism, stalking and criminal threats. Brencius is being held in the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles in lieu of $550,000 ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court September 8. |
