POMONA - One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision early Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said. All westbound I-10 freeway lanes just west of Kellogg Drive remain closed, with traffic being diverted off to the 57 freeway. The collision was first reported to the CHP around 4:47 a.m. September 19, according to CHP traffic logs. At least two vehicles, both with no descriptions, collided. One came to a stop in the No. 2 lane of the westbound I-10 freeway, another came to a stop on the right shoulder. Officers with the police department for California State Polytechnic University, Pomona also arrived on scene after the crash to help redirect traffic on the freeway until the CHP could arrive to take over the closure. Written by AARON CASTREJON CItyWatch Editor POMONA – A woman was taken into custody Sunday after frightening a family when she appeared with a handgun in their yard, the Pomona Police Department said.
Saleena Bryant, 18, was detained and arrested when she tried to flee over a fence after initially refusing to comply with officers commands to surrender. A loaded handgun fitted with a silencer was found in Bryant’s possession, according to the Pomona Police Department. The incident unfolded at a home in the 400 block of West Franklin Avenue around 12:34 p.m. September 12. A family member called 9-1-1 asking for help, reporting the woman was in a rear yard, according to the Pomona Police Department. Family members barricaded in a bedroom until police arrived. “Officers arrived on-scene and immediately established a perimeter around the location. A tactical plan was created and officers were able to safely evacuate all of the family members through a side window,” the Pomona Police Department said in a written statement. Officers found Bryant allegedly hiding in a motor home. She refused to comply with police, but eventually exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, the Pomona Police Department said. Bryant, a Pomona woman, was booked on suspicion of trespassing, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm while not the owner and possession of a silencer. The incident was reported to the CHP around 8:38 a.m. September 13. Firefighters arrived on scene and performed CPR, but the driver was pronounced dead around 9:10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The flatbed truck is described as a Ford F450 from Penske. The body was discovered near the Holt Avenue off ramp from the north 71 freeway. The person, described as possibly a white male in his 30s, may have been the victim of a rollover crash that occurred last night, according to the California Highway Patrol. A two-hour Sig Alert was issued for the off ramp. It was not immediately clear how far along the ramp from surface streets the body was found. |
