The checkpoint is scheduled to last from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. The patrols are scheduled to last from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., Pomona Police said. In 2017, 1,120 people were killed in alcohol-involved crashes on California roads. In 2017, the Pomona Police Department investigated 127 DUI collisions which claimed one life and resulted in another 49 injuries, Pomona Police said in a written statement.
Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police announced a 17-year-old girl was removed from the streets, the victim of human trafficking October 10. The girl was found on Holt Avenue as she was being coached by a woman. The girl was eventually contacted by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services Who reunited her with her family, Pomona Police said. The unidentified woman was arrested and booked on suspicion of human trafficking of a minor. Two other women were arrested that night, booked on suspicion of loitering to commit prostitution, Pomona Police said.
“The Pomona Police Department takes a zero tolerance approach to human trafficking and sexual exploitation,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. “Patrol officers regularly conduct extra patrol in high crime areas in response to numerous complaints received from residents and local business owners. The teen suspect, unidentified due to his age, reportedly forced his way in to the home in the 900 block of South White Avenue around 9 p.m. October 3. Taken were cash, jewelry, electronics and a family vehicle after demanding the keys, Pomona Police said. Officers located the suspect in the nearby 1300 block of South Park Avenue after tracing a cell phone signal. The suspect was detained at the location and a gun and the stolen property were recovered, Pomona Police said. It was unclear if anyone was injured. |
