Rafael Sanchez, 32, was found guilty of one count of first-degree murder in the death of pizza parlor supervisor Daniel Anthony Sanchez, 21, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The jury also found true the allegation that a knife was used during the killing.
Rafael Sanchez faces 26 years to life in state prison, Santiago said. Daniel Sanchez was stabbed in the neck and back March 10, 2018, after Rafael told him to do his work Rafael is scheduled to be sentenced January 15, 2020 in Pomona Superior Court. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man wanted in connection for conspiracy to commit murder was arrested November 8 after a four-hour standoff. Justin Rivas, 24, was wanted for an investigation not related to Pomona. Officers learned of his location in the 400 block of West Center Street. Police arrived around 4:20 p.m. All other occupants in the home exited at the command of officers, except for Rivas. After four hours, Rivas was convinced to exit the home where officers placed him in handcuffs. A search warrant helped officers located and seize a weapon, large capacity magazines, ammunition and narcotics, Pomona Police said.
Rivas was booked on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and is being held in lieu of nearly $1.1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in Pomona Superior Court Wednesday, November 13. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Three men were jailed November 11 after breaking into a shed mere feet from a home where a mother and her children live. The burglary occurred in the 600 block of East Alvarado Street. The husband of the woman inside the home was watching remotely from work as the burglars entered a shed at his home, Pomona Police said. Police arrived and secured a perimeter. One suspect was found immediately. A second suspect attempted to flee the shed, but was also caught. After announcements were made, the third suspect emerged and was taken int custody, Pomona Police said.
Officers located and seized two shotguns. Pomona men Dennis Mulligan, 31, Kevin Tes, 26, and Abel Mascote, 19, were booked on suspicion of a variety of charges, including burglary, weapons violations and parole violation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A 28-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday after police discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine, more than $3,700 in cash, two handguns and ammunition. A search warrant was served in the 700 block of East Third Street Wednesday, November 6. The methamphetamine seized weighed nearly 3.5 pounds, according to the Pomona Police Department. Arrested was Gilbert Junior Flores. He was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of methamphetamine for sales and possession of an unregistered firearm. |
