The unidentified victim was struck and came to rest in westbound lanes of Holt Avenue at St. Paul Street around 7:53 p.m. December 21. A second driver then struck the victim. Witness accounts suggest the driver of the initial collision fled the scene, Pomona Police said. After arriving on scene, officers were contacted by a driver who identified herself as having been involved in the secondary collision. She is cooperating with investigators, Pomona Police said. The first driver has not been located.
The fatality is being investigated by the Pomona Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team. The operation held on December 5 and December 12 resulted in 19 arrests for probation violations and felony or misdemeanor warrants. 14 parole/probation compliance checks were conducted. The death occurred at 2894 Ficus St. December 14. Police were called to assist Los Angeles County Firefighters on a person not breathing call. The unidentified victim was found unresponsive and with a severe injury, according to the Pomona Police Department. The worker was declared dead in a parking lot, Pomona Police said. “The victim was helping guide a driver as he pulled a trailer out of a parking space. The victim was standing near or in between two empty, unhitched, parked trailers,” Pomona Police said. “The driver accidentally hit one of the trailers, which caused the victim to lose balance and hit his head against the side of the other trailer.” The driver who struck the trailer remained at the scene and was not intoxicated. He had a valid commercial driver license, Pomona Police said. The collision is being investigated by the Pomona Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team. William Pool, 27, was arrested on suspicion of murder in the July 2019 death Gregory Cummings. The arrest was possible after detectives received information of Pool’s whereabouts, Pomona Police said in a written statement. The Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit and Major Crimes Task Force located Pool standing outside a residence and ordered everyone out of the home. They eventually placed Pool in cuffs. Pool is accused of shooting Cummings to death in the 1400 block of West Grand Avenue. He was found unconscious on the ground by first responders. He died at the scene. Pool is being held in lieu of more than $3 million bail as he awaits a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court January 8, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Officers were called to the scene near the 57 freeway on ramp at 12:21 a.m. Monday, December 9. When they arrived, officers found a male down in lanes of traffic, according to the Pomona Police Department. What led to the collision is still unknown at this time. The California highway patrol was asked to block the Temple Avenue offramp from the southbound 57 freeway. Both directions of Temple Avenue were blocked during an investigation. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Pomona Police said. The collision occurred on Park Avenue north of Pearl Street around 5:11 p.m. December 5. Officers and Los Angeles County Firefighters rendered aid at the scene before the rider was hospitalized, Pomona Police said. The rider was identified by Pomona Police as 35-year-old McKenzie Story, a Pomona resident. He was last listed in critical condition. The driver, Sergio Galvan, remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers. Investigators determined he was not intoxicated while driving, Pomona Police said.
