CityWatch Editor POMONA - A domestic disturbance suspect is recovering after being shot by Pomona police at the end of a barricade at a collision scene Sunday night. The suspect allegedly fired off a handgun during the domestic disturbance in the 200 block of Las Brisas Circle, June 9. He fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed and crashed in the intersection of Holt Avenue and White Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect allegedly refused to exit his vehicle and barricaded himself. During this time, police shot the suspect. The suspect is currently recovering from his wounds at a hospital and is listed in stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of North Reservoir Street around 4:15 a.m. March 20 by a woman who concerned for a friend’s wellbeing. One woman was able to escape through a window from the home and told police of her ordeal and that another woman had yet to be freed, according to the Pomona Police Department. Authorities setup a perimeter and evacuated nearby residents. It took four hours of talks with crisis negotiators, with family of the suspect assisting, until 29-year-old Ricardo Alvarado surrendered, according to the Pomona Police Department. No one was injured. Firearms were seized from the residence. Alvarado, a Pomona man, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment with violence, kidnapping and removing, damaging or destroying a wireless communication device to prevent someone from using it to seek help. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A barricaded stolen vehicle suspect finally surrendered to police after taking refuge inside an apartment unit January 16.
The incident began around 8:41 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Trojan Way when officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a man suffering mental issues. Officers found a man inside a vehicle that they determined was stolen and the man ran from them, according to the Pomona Police Department. The man, later identified as Leobardo Hernandez, 32, ran to an apartment complex in the 400 block of East Olive Street. Officers set up a perimeter and determined Hernandez fled into an apartment unit. “The residents were not home, but were able to monitor his activities via surveillance cameras inside the residence,” according to the Pomona Police Department. Hernandez allegedly destroyed property inside the apartment, changed into clothes belonging to the residents, shaved himself and used hygiene products to try and change his appearance to pass himself off as a resident of the location, Pomona Police said. Smoke was seen coming from the unit. It was later discovered that the suspect burned tortillas. Hernandez eventually surrendered without further incident. He was booked on suspicion of burglary, possessing a stolen vehicle, vandalism and attempted burglary. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A barricaded man was jailed Wednesday after a SWAT team deployed tear gas into a home, forcing the suspect and his victim to flee, police said. The suspect, 42-year-old Marco Antonio Lujan of Pomona, was arrested at 7 a.m. September 25 and booked on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Officers responded to the 700 block of Gilbert Street just before midnight September 24 to reports of gunfire and a man with a weapon forcing a woman into a home, Pomona Police said. A perimeter was set, nearby residents evacuated and an emergency search warrant was written for the suspect residence.
Several occupants, including children, fled the home about 10 minutes after police made announcements. Officers working the perimeter located an AR-15 and blood spattered on a vehicle. The tear gas was deployed soon after. Both the suspect and a woman fled the home, Pomona Police said. It is unclear who the blood belonged to and it has not been stated if the woman sustained injuries. |
