A full brush response was sent to the fire, but the quick work of the initial firefighters to arrive kept flames from spreading, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The California Highway Patrol has shut down the on ramp to the north 57 freeway at Temple Avenue. The fire is burning near the right shoulder. A passerby on the freeway apparently pulled over to extinguish the flames when the fire first started, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Firefighters will be checking for any damage to structures above on the hillside, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire has burned an estimated 5 acres as of 6:55 p.m. The fire is burning in light to medium grass uphill. And there are no structures threatened at this time, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire is zero percent contained, with access made difficult by nearby railroad tracks, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire has a potential to burn an estimated 25 acres, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The California Highway Patrol has received a report of a man in a white tank top seen leaving where the fire ignited. One report states the man was setting something on fire, another report states that the man was also trying to extinguish the fire with a jug of water. A full brushfire response is arriving to the scene.  POMONA - A brush fire is burning along a hillside near Fairplex Drive and Gillette Road, Los Angeles County firefighters report. A California Highway Patrol officer first reported the fire just before 5:30 p.m. The fire has burned an estimated two acres as of 5:31 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Humane Wy. Firefighters were dispatched at 4:46 a.m. July 27, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. By 5:42 a.m., several water drops helped to keep flames from progressing further, a battalion chief said.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened. This is the second fire to have sparked in the area. The fire was seen in the hills to the southwest of the 200 block of Humane Way around 4:42 a.m. June 4 behind a water reclamation plant, according to Joey Napoli of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A full brush fire response was called, including a helicopter, but the helicopter was called off, leaving the work to ground crews.
The one-acre fire burned in light to heavy vegetation and crept uphill. Firefighters on scene reported the likely source of the fire as a homeless encampment, Napoli said. The fire is burning in the area of West Phillips Drive and South Westmont Avenue. Firefighters, dispatched at 8:35 p.m., report no structures are threatened, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Forward progress of the flames has been stopped. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor POMONA - Firefighters have a strong hold over a brush fire that burned near the Pomona Fairplex Monday afternoon.
The Fairplex Fire in 70 percent contained and burned 50 acres. Forward progress of the flames has been stopped and firefighters will remain throughout the night to increase containment lines and extinguish hot spots, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was reported at 2:22 p.m. at North Fairplex and the I-10 freeway. No structures were threatened during the fire fight.  PHOTO/Stock image.
