It is unclear what led to the exchange of gunfire near Reservoir Street and the westbound 60 Freeway on ramp December 3. First responders were sent to the scene around 8:30 p.m. The woman was hospitalized in stable condition, according to the California Highway Patrol. CityWatch Editor POMONA - While the Drifters may be a great act, one suspect took their advice of escaping “up on the roof” too literally November 23. Anthony Sambrano, 34, was booked on suspicion of grand theft, possession of burglary tools and for an outstanding warrant. He allegedly stole items from Target, 701 Rio Rancho Rd. A suspect search unfolded after officers were called to investigate. A K9 aptly named Stryker found the suspect hiding on a rooftop at a nearby school. The Los Angeles County Fire Department assisted with a ladder and officers safely brought Sambrano down. Sambrano was officially charged in court with one count each of petty theft with a prior conviction, grand theft, second-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. He pleaded not guilty, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Police announced the arrest of a teen, accused of a November 23 fatal shooting in an apartment unit. Major Crimes detectives investigated the shooting and believe the 13-year-old committed the murder of a 16-year-old boy. She has since been taken to juvenile hall, according to the Pomona Police Department. The teen killed was identified as Angel Sierra. He died from gunshot wounds of the neck and abdomen, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The shooting took place around 5:22 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Pasadena Avenue. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Two people died from apparent gunshot wounds in a possible murder-suicide November 17. The bodies were found around 6:40 p.m. at the Sienna Residences, 777 E. Third St., Monday. First responders found a man and woman suffering gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was hospitalized, but later died. The incident may have been domestic in nature and that those who died likely knew each other. The identities have yet to be released until notification of next of kin, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating. CityWatch Editor POMONA - Park West High School and the surrounding area have been locked down while police investigate a phoned in threat Wednesday. A large police presence remains at the school, 1460 E. Holt Ave., and surrounding area. “At this time, we do not believe the threat to be credible,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - Pomona Police Department’s newest four-legged officer got some good treats after helping to apprehend a suspect who tried to flee on foot after crashing September 7. Officers witnessed suspect Delmar Washington, 21, commit multiple traffic law violations at Humane Way and Roselawn Drive. He refused to stop and drove away, according to the Pomona Police Department. Washington fled at high speed and in opposing traffic lanes during the brief pursuit. He crashed into a pole at Mission Boulevard and Towne, according to the Pomona Police Department. With the vehicle catching fire, Washington tried to run, but officer Salgado and K9 Zola caught him. Washington was treated at the scene before being hospitalized. This arrest marked K9 Zola’s first apprehension since joining the department earlier this year. Washington, a Rosemead resident, was officially charged with one count each of evading a police officer with disregard for public safety, fleeing a pursuing peace officer and driving against traffic, and delaying a peace officer.
Washington is being held at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic in lieu of $100,000 bail. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A DUI driver who caused a triple fatal crash pleaded guilty to all charges September 3. Victor Siharath, 37, pleaded guilty September 3 to three counts of murder and one count of DUI causing great bodily injury in the March 2, 2024 crash. He also pleaded guilty to enhancements for great bodily injury and multiple victims, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team determined that Siharath failed to stop for a red light, causing the collision, which injured two others. Siharath is scheduled to be sentenced September 18, with a plea agreement of 30 years to life in prison. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A caretaker was arrested August 25 after detectives determined fatal injuries a dependent man sustained were intentionally inflicted. Ollie Johnson, 66, reportedly fell in a bathtub in a residence in the 700 block of East End Avenue August 22. Johnson was apparently unresponsive for an extended time. The type of injuries were inconsistent with the explanation given by the caretaker, according to the Pomona Police Department. Johnson died at the scene. “Due to the suspicious circumstances, Detectives from the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit initiated an investigation. MCU Detectives gathered evidence that led to the arrest of Johnson's caretaker, 42-year-old Paul Jonathan Donell of Pomona,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Donell was officially charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with one count each of murder and elder or dependent adult abuse resulting in death. CityWatch Editor POMONA - A juvenile was arrested August 23, accused of using a pellet gun to shoot a motorist’s face. The victim sustained injuries considered not life-threatening. The motorist called the California Highway Patrol after being shot on the east 60 freeway near Phillips Ranch Road in Pomona around 1:47 p.m. The motorist followed the white Dodge SUV the suspect was in, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers from the Baldwin Park and Rancho Cucamonga offices, aided by Chino Police, stopped the SUV on Riverside Drive west of Mountain Avenue in Chino. CityWatch Editor POMONA - It’s usually advisable to not leave your wallet and identification behind after fleeing the scene of the crime, but one suspect didn’t get the memo May 16. Two men began arguing over a dog and the shouting match escalated into one of the men getting struck in the head with a tire iron, according to the Pomona Police Department. The suspect dropped his wallet and fled. Police identified him as 29-year-old Christian Ayala of Pomona. Ayala was spotted by Pomona Police Major Crimes Units August 8 driving in the area of Ninth Street and Buena Vista Avenue and was arrested.
